Ernie1553552694
The Grado Signature cartridge is $999 new. Worth bidding for that alone...

Dogman1553552716
I thought it was a MM cart, so could just replace the stylus...or is it a MC cart? No, seems like its a moving "IRON" cart...whatever that is....confused....

Calling turntable guru Michael W...are you out there...any ideas? Bit hard to tell from the grotty picture but that appears to be a really old Grado Signature, seller says it was $600 new. Brand new would probably set you back $1k or so... Dogman;72594 wrote: I thought it was a MM cart, so could just replace the stylus...or is it a MC cart? No, seems like its a moving "IRON" cart...whatever that is....confused.... Those early Signatures did have user replaceable stylii that was cemented in place with a black putty-like substance. New Signatures in the wooden body are not user replaceable. I haven't played with a PT TOO but did try an older PT back in the mid-80s. First up, the name of this table is thoroughly reprehensible. If you want to know why, look up World War 2 history. The table itself was pretty good, back then a breath of fresh air compared to the ubiquitous Linn Sondek LP12. High tech materials. Aluminium sub-chassis, acrylic platter. + Old school design. Belt-drive, 3-point suspension, lightweight sub-chassis. + Bodgy implementation. Easy external spring adjustment but no height adjustment for support feet, no platter clamp, poor speed stability, mediocre suspension. = Sonic curate's egg. Clean and reasonably neutral, noticeable HF rise, thinning midrange, lightweight bass. Fairly good soundstaging but lacking depth and dimensionality. Not as toe-tapping as a Linn of similar vintage. If the TM one is a PT TOO it should be a lot better than the earlier models. A Rega arm is a better match than heavier arms. Could be worth pursuing if the price doesn't go crazy (eg. stays below $1k)...
