Tristar71
speakers??? no joke right? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Home-audio/Speakers-and-stands/Floor-speakers/auction-167369710.htm
Owen Y
Smallish footprint, quite elegant slim frontage & colour, nice symmetry in driver placement. Looks like rear firing. If truly a horn, it uses the room corner as extension of the hornmouth. Flat to 20hz?..... theoretical hornmouth, cornerloaded, would need to be 6m diam! Might happen in a BIG room
Tristar71
don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that
sedge
I could be wrong (not unusual) I think they are DIY speakers called BIBs and can be found at http://www.zillaspeak.com/bib.asp or www.diyaudio.com in the loudspeakers/fullrange section. I built a similar set, very very nice speakers if you have the room for them. An open top folded pipe using ceiling/corner interface as part of the design to increase extension... 20Hz ? I've measured 30-40 out of mine (I'm using smaller Fostex drivers) 20Hz would be a stretch I think. Flat to 38Khz ? Yikes, There's lots of ripple in the charts for these, flat isn't a word I'd use to describe them, they are entertaining Sedge.

Owen Y
sedge;68177 wrote: An open top folded pipe using ceiling/corner interface as part of the design to increase extension... Ah yes, a TQWP (Tapered Quarter Wave Pipe) or 'Voigt Pipe', named after Paul Voigt, who devised this concept in the 30s/40s. The idea is a column of air that resonates at wavelength 4x the length of the column, eg assuming that this cabinet is a column folded in half, therefore around 4m long, then it will theoretically support a wavelength of 21hz! (speed of sound/wavelength). Voigt's brilliant refinement was to taper the column, so that the LF response was broadened, to around 1.5 octaves. Looking at this Tr Me design, the placement of the driver at sl higher than half ht, leads me to think that the open end is at the bottom....as Voigt's other discovery was that the best place to locate the driver is at 1/3 of the column length... maybe a wee sketch here... ... The tweeter looks like an Aurum Cantus G2 Si ribbon tweet, USD93ea, see... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=276-400 Attached files

Do you think that a male (or same gender) partner would be more accepting....? I'd be doubtful. Actually I think they look quite elegant in the cnrs
nixon76
I think they look alright, as long as they can stay in the corner. Amusing comment at the bottom as well.
spacies
I like them too but us males tend to like them that way. BIG!

sedge
Ha ha... And I'm about to reshape my subs into cabinets just as tall and stick them to the sides of the BIBs They don't take up any more room than standard speakers when you count the dead space above and behind... Ahahaha, almost kept a straight face when I typed that... Really, they don't, but they are imposing. Yes, I have a Mrs, yes, she knows I'm insane. Sedge. sedge
Assuming top quality hardware, electronics and ply on these, the parts can be had for less than $1200. Mine cost less than $500 all up. It's all straight cuts for the saw, the crossover can be as simple as a small cap and a resistor (if you even need the supertweeter) An excellent DIY project. Ah well, good on the person selling, they are giving up something special ! I think the only thing I'd trade for would be electrostatics, sadly I don't have the room or the watts for them... Yet Cabinet size... Yes... Why ? One small driver, think about musical integration, a point source and the speed of the bass. Sedge.
