Some interesting valves,

The Sylvania have square getters and a lovely full mellow tone. The Haltron are new and look like really well built valves. The 5U4-GB appear to be military stock - rare to find a pair - strong looking tubes

The 5U4GBs look identical to standard RCA tooling, envelope size/shape, side gettering.

The giveaway is probably the octagonal print logo on the glass, just visible in the pic?

Cheers, Owen

I agree Owen - they look like RCA but the boxes and tube bases are printed in red USA Miniwatt. Made by RCA for Phillips maybe?

Thanks

Sorry, I may have to correct myself here....

I have some Miniwatt 5U4GBs which are almost identical in every detail to RCA GBs, right down to the octagonal logo, red base printing, plate tooling, mica shape, etc etc.

So yes, those are Miniwatt (a Philips brand name I understand since the 20s) but apparently RCA manuf.

5UGBs date from 1956, so maybe some post-war dealings between Philips & RCA? I know that Philips established a foothold in USA by buying the Amperex brandname in the 50s...and these were fine tubes too.

Cheers, Owen
