Swapped original R200 Tonearm for a Acos Luster GST 1, mainly because the anti skate belt in the R200 had perished and at the time, I thought it would be too much for me to repair. Have since become braver and repaired subsequent one. Belts are available locally. Also has Tango spinner sub platter and a MDF platter with holes so that the belt can be moved to change speed with out removing the platter. I have the original glass platter but it has a few chips in it. This is a Planar 3 that I did complete the repair of the anti skate belt and then sold on. When the system's on the rack I'll take a few pictures. I have to say, I do like the look of that Tango Spinner sub platter, am I right in thinking that the top "ring" gives a bit more isolation from motor vibration? Not sure if the rings give more isolation. I had assumed that their role was to grip the platter, but they may help motor isolation. I suppose I should fit the mdf platter on to the original plastic sub platter and see if I can hear the difference between them and the glass platter and Tango spinner sub platter. Perhaps the fact that the chipped , glass platter bothered me enough to change to the mdf means the difference was not that noticeable.

From what I've read, about the best upgrade for the Planar 2 is the sub-platter, I've been looking at this as the first thing to do on mine. It's a right minefield though, trying to figure out which will give the best results. I'm still thinking about a delrin one, and there are a few that are machined to maximise mass concentration to the rim and minimise vibrational transfer. I'm planning on isolating the motor entirely at some point, but I figure getting the best kit for the job that I can makes sense. I just wish someone would do a sub-platter shootout
wen
I'm sure the top ring gives some isolation but also prevents the glass platter from slipping. On my rega i have a slate tile with silicone barrier attached to the plinth, a tangospinner sub-platter with ceramic bearing, a moth202 arm , michelle underslung techno weight, and Ortofon quintet blue moving coil cartridge, have removed the original feet and am using whites anti vibration squares on a custom made steel sand filled frame with leveling screws. My brother was going to do the same mod to his planar3 but the plinth is more substantial so decided against. Only other upgrade will be the rega 24v motor upgrade kit

Yep, it seems like it might be an advantage for me to look at this in preference to the other sub platters I've seen. Not sure where to go with the bearing, I suppose the first thing to do is make sure that after 30-odd years the one I've got isn't rusty Past that, who knows? Sub-platter first, although long-term I keep looking at what Audio origami can do with an RB250 arm, and drooling...
