mgstarr
I'm looking for a recommendation on a home theatre sound system with the smallest visual profile. My goal is to avoid the Bose system - however it does have a very attactive profile for those who don't want to see their music. I'll be pairing this with a 42 inch plasma television. The Omnisat Micro has been recommended to me so anything that size or smaller is my preference. Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Tony Davey
How about the Linn Classik movie system, reviwed on this site about 12 months or so ago. A little pricey, but being Linn, sound and build quality are absolutely 1st class, comes in an attractive range of colours, is powerful enough to fill medium sized rooms. Well worth a listen. Congratulations at avoiding Bose Sen
mgstarr
Have you seen the JMlab Sib compact speaker home theatre system? Their size and easy wall mount capability is attractive. Not sure if these are available in NZ but I definitely want to investigate further.
JimmyC
I would recommend finding a set of Kef KHT 2005 'Eggs' to have a listen to. They're not quite as diminutive as some but they are very nice to listen to, music and HT. There's the new 2005.2 system been released as well lately. Not sure if it's available in NZ yet but has a new Uni-Q speaker for the sats and a bigger 10" driver with 250w amp for the sub... They look pretty stunning in black as well which would help them disappear visually in a darkened room I suspect... Very recent review :Kef 2005 review Also - KHT 2005.
Michael Jones
mgstarr, very small speakers can look good, but they often don't sound very good. There's a good reason for this. Usually such speakers are used with an AV receiver, with the crossover set within the receiver (usually around 80Hz). Problem is that very small speakers can't reach down as low and often are rolling off at 150Hz. This leaves a big hole in the frequency response between the sattelite speaker rolloff and where the sub kicks in. This frequencies covered by this whol are important for voices and many instruments. The result is a sound that lacks body, weight and impact. You need a reasonable size for the satelite speakers, other wise you overall sound will suffer. As a great engineer said, "I cannae change the laws of physics, cap'n!"
Cooperg27
l agree with Jimmyc, l have the Kef KHT 2005 'Eggs' and find they are great with DVD and enjoyable for listening to back ground music too. If you can find a dealer local, ask for a demo
