Do you have any thoughts about how it sounds compared to your Luxman? Cheers. I hung on for some time waiting for the Uniti Star to emerge but it just kept getting delayed. So bought the Moon Neo Ace and haven't looked back. It has a phono stage but misses out on the disc spinner. I ripped my CD collection many years ago so I don't miss it anyway. Do you have any thoughts about how it sounds compared to your Luxman? Cheers. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow one from Andrew at Audiofix for a direct comparison for a couple of weeks. The combo I had was the Lux 507u. GroB dac. SOtM ultra with Geiseler psu. The uniti star is a very detailed sound streaming tidal, or from my nas, or even a CD It has tidal built in by the way. Then I streamed tidal upscalled to dsd 128 using Roon. Next level detail Is it better than the lux etc combo. Debatiable. Prob not. But hellishly Close. Different would prob be a true description. That beautiful naim sound. And matched with the Spendors maybe a match made in heaven. But more importantly. The Star is way more flexiable. So easy to control. And so many less boxes and cords. To say im happy is an understatement. Now I’m not worried about listening to the electronics. I’m listening to music again
blybo
@Bill125812 Now you just need to let those Spendors breathe a little. We all have set up compromises, but can't you get them a little further away from the cabinet?

I would prefer the higher power output of the Star without the CD. Does anybody know if there is such a thing in the naim range

Steve M
I’m enjoying these simple systems on display ...keep ‘me coming. Except some aren’t so simple with more boxes hidden away in nice cabinets. I slipped the Bakoon Pre 7610 Mk II back into my simple system pictured, to see what it could doing to proceedings and whether it is necessary ? Well to say the least the preamp will not be coming out! You would think that the Bakoon SCA-7511 Mk III integrated amp on its own is about as pure and simple as it gets with its unique Satri circuit and inbuilt stepped attenuator delivering the goods. However, the addition of the preamp makes quite a big difference. There is more dynamics, low level detail and a bigger soundstage with preamp in tow ...I feel the system just sounds louder and more impressive overall. Not sure what is going on here, but it substantiates my past claims that a good preamplifier is an essential component. Maybe things are not so simple after all? Cheers, Steve. 1
Misternavi
Nice clean setup! Which benchmark speakers are those? Looks quite big and wide Benchmark (melbourne made) S500 focal drivers. apparently made with the help of colin whatmough. imagine whatmough 201 monitors built as a floorstander. I also have a Benchmark pre amp in storage and regretted selling my Benchmark power amp. I also have Benchmark s300 speakers. smaller cheaper speaker with phillips tweeter and 2x 4inch bass drivers. sounds really good.
Sub Sonic
I’ve also simplified recently. I’ve put some 12” wide range drivers in some 50 y/o cabinets. Amp is a small class A 8wpc kit. Source is the iPhone. DAC? See pic i do have the Rythmik subs hidden away behind the speakers, just using the speaker cables as an input. And it sounds great! Speakers: Amp: DAC: Cheers, SS 2

All i need for a while Apart from all the hard surfaces in the room now its empty it sounded amazing for what it is. Great bass. I had to pack everything else up for a renovation. I hear you, after moving back from moving around Asia for 6 years, I was left with an A&K AK240 DAP with about 2 gigs of music on various SD cards and a Cambridge Audio G2 Bluetooth Speaker for about 9 months. Pretty straight forward. Edited March 24, 2019 by Neurone
Andrews_melb
@Neurone @Neurone nice, fair enough. Without derailing the thread, i think the Bluesound Pulse and similar style speakers are vastly different than the smaller bluetooth portable style. This one is so close in sound to quality bookshelf speakers, apart from imaging. Psb and nad tech inside to help. Also being powered is a big advantage when used in the home. If it could be paired for stereo it would beat a lot of bookshelf’s at the same price.
MattyW
I find my home office system sounds pretty spectacular for not much outlay. Elfidelity PCI-E sound card with cheap no name discrete OPAMPS, JLH 1969 Hood amp, and a pair of Dayton PS180-8 fullrange drivers in cheap angled cart system speaker boxes. Just spectacular for near field listening..... There's a Wharfedale SW150 sub too. I've heard plenty of main systems don't sound as good and this is dirt cheap. I know it's a mess though things get dumped in my office and the door closed. Out of sight and out of mind. Buffle
My current office system is a pair of Karri Walpole speakers running of a 6922/KT77 tube amplifier of my own design, using my work Mac streaming Apple Music via iTunes. It's very enjoyable and if it were my only system I'd be satisfied.
ian_
I currently am running martin logan quests..... together with Denon separates... which is not exactly minimalist....but I am seriously looking at moving to minimalist. I can see replacing my centre with something like a bluesound sound bar, but it is real question what to replace the martin logans and denons with. Ideas appreciated. Primare Knob
I don't understand this, you turn on the power, press play and things start to happen. Pretty simple, or am I skipping some steps?

Pretty simple, or am I skipping some steps? Yeah, as longs as it's easy use once it's setup I'm not too fussed how many components it takes. I don't think you get much flexibility without a bit of complexity.

Pretty simple, or am I skipping some steps? How primitive! I don’t want any limb movement at all. Just “hey Siri, play something nice”, and Siri should do so at a volume I like. In fact, Siri should just know that I want to listen to music.

My system has integrated, TT, stereo speakers and a sub. Audio wise I have no CD player, but my entire collection was ripped many years ago. I don't buy CD's anymore and stream from roon, bluetooth or play vinyl. If you include the AV side of things I also have an Apple TV and Foxtel box, but they would be there regardless of the 2 ch system.
