Hi Matt,

what do you think about these reviews?

Also, will it be better than W1700? Planning to buy one. But stuck here. Thanks for your help.

Yes - it is clearly better than the W1700.

If you are based in the USA, let me know where and I will find you a local dealer to see one

Got a couple of 5700's here today and set one up Saturday.

Very nice! This PJ is going to wow a lot of people. Best blacks I've ever seen on a DLP, not inky black, but acceptable, near the Sony level of black.

Sharp dlp picture, nice motion and love the calibration certificate.

Build quality seems superb, the lens shift dials are solid, no drifting so far on focus either. Bit of movement of the lens up or down can happen when adjusting zoom especially if you're pushing downward, but it feels really cushioned and responsive and is no drama to resize or adjust focus either. Focus is very precise and the movement of the focus ring is tiny in order to get it to focus.

For those who shelf mount, the feet on the bottom are simple to turn and adjust without needing to lift the side of the projector up. 2 front feet and 1 rectangular non adjustable foot at the back, how it should be done. triangular pattern.

Remote is good actually, red backlight, bounces off the screen fine. I'm using this remote for my 990 also.

4K looks superb as it should. The screen shot, hard to grab what I'm seeing on screen with a phone camera, so I've edited this one to reflect more of what I'm seeing.

Come on mate, leave out your commercial interests and get serious.  A 10 year old "quality" DLP, projector, such as a Sim2, had MUCH better measured native contrast and black level than ANY current Benq DLP.

The current "4K" single chip DLP projectors have significantly lower native contrast than the old dark chip 3 1080 DLP projectors, especially quality ones. More pixels means more micro mirror edges to refract light and degrade contrast, even Texas Instruments, who manufacture the imaging chips acknowledge that.

As for comparisons with Sony, even a base model Sony has 5 times or more the native contrast of any current "4k" DLP projector, SXRD technology is in a different league. JVC's D-ILA tech is a significant step above Sony and leaves DLP in the dust.

Owen,

Have you actually measured it in a side by side in a visual comparison?

I keep saying it - A number on a website or on a piece of paper do not always equate to what the eye sees or a meter can measure.

I was lucky enough last week to see these side by side - were the blacks better on the Sony 270 ES - sure - but by a $5000 margin?  Depends how much you put on a few shades of black I guess.

Both manufacturers make great projectors (I am lucky enough to work for BenQ) but would own either without a second thought!  DLP or LCD, LCOS or DILA - none are perfect - but we are forever improving and getting closer with each new model!

For me the W5700 is the best budget projector (sub $5k) that BenQ have built since the W5000/W10000/W20000 models (using the tech you mentioned in your post) but it doesn't stop there - this is the year when the tide turns.

Dont take my word for it - watch the numbers and the general chatter.

The W5700 is the gamechanger - not perfect- but well on the way!

Oh Owen, I said 'Best blacks I've ever seen on a DLP, not inky black, but acceptable, near the Sony level of black'. That is an honest statement. I have a 570ES here to compare too, they're not that far apart. I've never owned a 10 year old Sim2 DLP Owen, much like you've never owned anything past the JVC X3 from 10 years ago because they're 'all the same once calibrated' ? Imagine if everyone in Australia took on your comments and never purchased anything new ever again because it's all a scam.. What would you be calibrating? 10 year old 720p epsons? 10 year old JVC HD1's?

It's not all about black levels. These DLP's leave JVCs and Sony's 'in the dust' when it comes to clarity and detail and yep the LK970 and 990 leaves them for dead when it comes to brightness too. They're world's apart there I can tell you right now. It's all about compromises, because no PJ is perfect, even for you, the highest CR JVC is nowhere near good enough... Your words. How do you ever enjoy home cinema when you have such crappy contrast? Why not just switch to an OLED?

Dont tell anyone, but I understand someone upgraded to a jvc x900, yes one of things completely unnecessary to upgrade too since the ole x3 was as good as it would ever get :D

It goes further back than that oz, for those of us been around long enough to remember...its all still there for record ... the forum doesn’t forget ....

...  dinosaurs in the gigasorous rear projection tvs is where it’s at. We did try to explain at the time that there was better around but No we would be daft to sit in the dark and watch a projector screen ....apparently :D

like sands through the hour glass ....

I asked customer how his new 5700 going, his reply:

Do comparing it to my old w7000 it is much sharper and has a much better 3 dimensional image. The blacks does seem better and are ok(w7000 was pretty ordinary and they are DLPs). When looking at blacks on screen, they look good to me. WCG and HDR are great.

Well done Matt, think we'll have to offer a Ruipro at a discounted price of course with each BenQ 4k PJ sold:)

Yep - I guess they have a large area in which to work and if I remember when I lived in the country properly, a pretty loyal customer base.

@Matt_Walker A question Regarding the Benq W5700; does the unit have any inbuilt Anamorphic modes?

I have a Prismasonic Anamorphic Lens, and if it woks with the Benq, it looking like a pretty hard projector to beat in terms of value for money!

I live near the Instyle store, so will be hopefully checking out the unit later today.

Cheers
