Decent rig there :)

Mines now 8 years old so not much point, back in gaming and over clocking days I was running BM's a few times a week looking for that extra few frames after some hacking. Super PI, Passmark and 3D Mark.

I may get around to giving mine a go, I only put it together at the end of Dec. Similar build to yours but I only went for the i5 9600K and 16Gb of RAM.

That would be interesting, as given similar specs as warweary, I remember in the past I could have for example the exact same hardware as someone else but a different brand of motherboard using the same chip set yet the board the other guy had would be better performing and this would be reflected in the benchmarks.

Edit: not that this is something both you guys wouldn't know, I'm sure you both have plenty of experience and I'm just thinking out loud.

I've just finished putting this together.

I need to change the XMP setting's which should increase the RAM score.

HDD needs to be swapped out for Hybrid HDD's

Interesting to see the comparison between the Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti Vs Nvidia RTX 2070 considering the price difference.

It's not a gaming machine, you have a professional 3D (OpenGL) graphics card, a server class CPU and a NAS grade bulk storage drive. The machine is made for things like a CAD application and other modelling tasks. The huge amount of RAM you have isn't going to speed up typical desktop tasks or gaming, but it will be great in the intended application of this machine.

You'll note mine is very good in CPU and the OS disk, but comparatively weak on the GPU, this is by design, I spent money on things that pay off in Photoshp and Lightroom, and saved on things that aren't a significant benefit for those applications. I use WD Black (multimedia) drives for my working files, but slower ones for bulk storage.

Put a gaming machine that beats yours in these benchmarks up against yours with a 3D CAD application using OpenGL and the situation would likely reverse with yours comprehensively beating the gaming build.

Thanks @pwstereo - makes perfect sense.

So based on my two contributions above, which one is best for:

Daily tasks - email/web/photoshop multiple tabs and tasks

Plex Server - purely serving plex clients

I'd say they are both overkill for those jobs.

Plex does transcoding so it can use plenty of CPU, but people run Plex on NASs, so it can't be too arduous.

I'd leave things as you have them, but perhaps scale back next time you replace the desktop/everyday machine.

My "workstation":

UserBenchmarks: Game 91%, Desk 70%, Work 96%
CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2680 v3 - 52.4%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 - 108.6%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 299.6%
RAM: G.SKILL F4 DDR4 2400 C15 4x8GB - 105.7%
MBD: Asrock X99 Extreme4

@Marc Swap the GPU between the Plex Server and Daily Tasks.... and the Plex server would be the quickest outright in every task. You could also consider swapping the RAM as well.

UserBenchmarks: Game 117%, Desk 111%, Work 83%
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K - 91.2%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 140.3%
SSD: Samsung 960 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB - 199.7%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB - 72.2%
MBD: Asus STRIX Z270G GAMING

Wouldn't run with my GPU OC on though...weird...stable in games and other benchmark software. Might just be After Burner logging at same time.

I've just finished building this PC for my son this afternoon. Will be used as a 4K gaming machine for Rainbow 6: Seige mainly. He coaches a team so records a lot of games & lots of map saves for game plays. He was more then happy with mine so I have used similar components. Only things that are different-

Mine-  Noctursa DH15  CPU cooler

New-  AIO Corsair H100i CPU cooler

Mine- Corsair HM1000i PSU with factory cables

New- Corsair RM1000i PSU with aftermarket Corsair sleeved cables with built in resistors (no idea what they do lol)

Mine- i7-9700K

New- i7-9700KF

Again I've gone for the NVIDIA GTX-1080Ti GPU,  (I use the Founders Edition, only available second hand)

Until Ray Tracing is a real world thing, I can't justify the price tag on the RTX series GPU's. Until then I don't think you can beat the GTX-1080Ti cards. Just look at scores of both series in this thread & others.

Looking at the SSD sores on all these systems, I'm surprised to see a few low numbers there, I can't see why they would be so low? Is it the CPU, GPU or RAM?

I can't see why there is a large difference between mine / new HDD & RAM. Might have to upgrade mine lol

I'm so tempted to grab a i9-9900K to try out. Would like to see if anything has a huge improvement.

Both PC scores below. Easier then scrolling up to compare new to mine :)

NEW PC

UserBenchmarks: Game 128%, Desk 165%, Work 143%
CPU: Intel Core i7-9700KF - 101.3%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 136.2%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 356%
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 8TB (2017) - 97.5%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3200 C16 2x16GB - 107.9%
MBD: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS MASTER

MY PC

User Benchmarks: Game 128%, Desk 164%, Work 147%
CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K - 110.5%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti - 132.3%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 343.1%
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 4TB (2017) - 78.1%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3200 C16 2x16GB - 76.8%

Thanks for the advice. What would the benefits be in both cases?
