Hi, yes that was a bit abstract. I was refering to my memories of dodgy uk camping grounds and holiday camps. Seeing tiny caravans parked next to busy dual carriageways with sad looking families drinking luke warm tea from thermos flasks in the rain... I think their  miserable looking faces must have said to me "what wouldn't we give right now to be on a beach in Australia"

Wow I have just read that back, sorry for such a depressing response!

Yes that does sound rather depressing. How dodgy?

My favourite is Carry On Regardless, with Stanley Unwin as the landlord.

That bloke who spoke gobblygook and everyone looked dumbfounded. Very funny. I have to admit I preferred the early black& whites too.

No one like quizzes here?

Love this quote from the film.

Man : A drink, Ma'am?
Queen Marie : Thank you.
Man : I can heartily recommend the port here.
Queen Marie : Really? Then do send him up to my room later.

The film is Carry on Henry and the actor, Terry Scott.

Not sure if you saw that June Whitfield Terry Scotts poor suffering wife in the sitcom Terry and June (+ Ab Fab + many Carry on's) passed away just last month.

Ok here is a tougher one. Not a regular Carry on cast member but pretty well known in his own right. Actor and movie...

Here is some trivia about  Carry On Camping.

  • Carry On Camping probably contains the most uses of  tropes, with characters including Sid Boggle (James), Kenneth Soaper (Williams), Charlie Muggins (Hawtrey), Bernie Lugg (Bresslaw), Joan Fussey (Sims).

  • Explain this scene from Camping?

Ok, so I spent some time trying to remember and didn't get the the answer.  I eventually resorted to Google and now I am kicking myself that I didn't know... Yes an absolutely classic scene (I won't give it away in case someone else wants a go - without Google!)

I too have watched this.  Also the teleplay Fantabulosa.. Have you seen that with Martin Sheen playing Williams.  He was a sad.. rather pathetic man.  A talented actor and what I think was a reluctant comedian.

No I have never seen Fantabulosa, I will absolutely have to check it out.

So much self-loathing, so sad.

Probably.  Thanks anyway. I  admired Hattie. She was the glue that bound together the Carry On gang.

Totally agree. Yet another one original cast member who died far too young.

Fill in Kenneth Williams line...

From Carry On Matron.

Hattie Jacques "I want to be wooed"

Kenneth Williams...

You got me. Will take a crack.. "well I dont"

Hattie simply had too much weight to carry for her heart.

You have heard  of the affair between Sid James and Babs Windsor. Here is a telebio you may find interesting if you have not seen it. Bit of an eye opener..
