Help finding power supply caps

Recommended Posts

Hoping someone can help out. I am trying to locate some electrolytic capacitors for an amp power supply
I would like to use a well know high quality brand. To meet spec they need to be
Height 50-60mm
Diameter 35mm
10000uf
80v or above
Temp 105c or above.
2 pin snap in.
Have tried various reliable suppliers like mouser etc with no luck. eBay, Amazon etc full of counterfeits. Only ones found to suit so far are very pricey mundorfs that are close to $300 for the 8 I would need..... ouch!

Thanks in advance, any help much appreciated.

If you’re prepared to spend that amount of cash, avoid eBay and others at all cost,  better to stick with RS, E14 and Mouser etc.

If you can’t get what you need,   You need to contact E14 and Mouser so they place you in contact with the supplier./manufacturer that are geared to make samples.  Give them the specs you need,  Voltage/capacity in uf and then the size required, they will then Tell you whether it’s practical to go to these values for this dimensional packaging, and usually that will result in $mega....

Your other alternative is, to find the next smaller value in uf and then accumulate the quantity from these outlets such as E14/  Mouser etc   parallel them up to add to the value you need.   A bit of work involve but at least they are available.

Its harder and harder to get these huge cans at 100-120V not like you were able to back in the mid 80s.  As time progresses most things are getting smaller and more power efficient reducing the need for these value caps.    And also amplifier designers are realising the importance of placing the caps close to the output devices to reduce the resistance accumulated via tracks and leads.

Thanks for replies, much appreciated.

I have been contacting the various reliable suppliers without much luck so far, and so many fakes around so reliable supplier a must.  I will try seeing if anyone can make them in a small run. Thanks again

Use a company email will also make a difference.   I know some companies such as Texas Instrument won’t even respond to personal emails such as gmail or hotmail.   The last I got samples was to use my organisations email address before any correspondence was made,  you get the “ how many hundreds or thousands”  and when they ask, state only that you are currently using it for R&D, audio entertainment, non military etc

The Mundorf's are good, I have used them in SS and tube supplies, so are Jensen and F&T apart from the big makers like Panasonic, Nichicon ect'.

The former can be had from places like partsconnxion in Canada and hificollective in the UK.

I'm not sure what ones have the values needed.

Edit: indeed, difficult set of values to find.

Maybe @pete_mac can help, he has to play with big caps doing those high end Sansui's

Digikey.com have a good range of larger caps that may meet your criteria including examples from EPCOS,KEMET & Nichicon.I've found their service excellent with fresh stock and prompt delivery within a few days.
