i have all my stuff coming on and going off with a universal remote, but always resisted including the projector in that.  and do that manual always with its own remote. just wouldnt want it switching on by accident or being switched off with a miss fire or something as can happen with universal remotes.

fingers crossed for you. with not only the manual open close, which hopefully reset things,  but also just on-off  sequence helping :)

So turning it on yesterday and today the 'stuttering' noise is definitely reduced in volume, almost to a soft hum.

There are two 'stutters'. One on bootup where the iris closes/re-opens. The next one is more pronounced (though softer than previous boot ups) and occurs just before the blue screen comes up (when no input).

Sound bite here: https://clyp.it/nvsr21ix

I've cropped the audio and amplified it so its easier to hear.

I'm not sure if all this is 'normal' or there is just some mechanical fault but not faulty enough to be causing operational issues.

I've checked the BT2020 filter on/off and that you can hear slide in/out but not loud 'stutter' noise.

It should NOT be making any "ginding" nosie on a regular basis.....if it is , id be very concerned!.      The iris gear mech is binding because it has lost its register.......if it continues contact JVC..be warned..

Getting the iris right is obviously an art form for these manufacturers. It's one thing that can really let down a projector is all the grinding noises and not knowing when to open or close, sometimes completely out of sync with what's on the screen. really annoying.

Being perfectly honest all that sounds not out of ordinary in soft hum to iris opening closing. The sound bite to me doesn’t in ways found something alarming. These are not quiet machines switching on off

I’d report regardless to respective dealer bought from. And just something keep ear on... as long as working all as should wouldn’t get too hung up on :)

interesting youtube there ! very informative too id suggest for new users as goes through each menu item help understand what each are and his suggested settings.... though not that much needs doing with these things out of box. but still good to understand :)

haha I like his summations vs sony. its always been case jvc has upper hand in the contrast stakes. Sony Qled vs jvc oled is one way of putting it :) sony need to get off their bums as he suggests with dynamic tone mapping. its a game changer and puts jvc clearly id suggest in different league...its a very polished switch machine the jvc !

Hi all

I’m curious members who have had the green / blue vertical bar issues were they told what the problem was ? Ive been told the latest firmware has fixed the issue but it doesn’t seem that it has, well not for all of us. I’m curious with the people that did have the issue sending their projector to repairs did they find out what the issue was ?
I experienced my first one ( have the latest firmware ) but I’m finding no one seems to know how it happens. It’s 2020 they should of have it sorted by now.

Thanks

Definitely a good way of summing up re oled v qled.

This guy always goes through the menus  when reviewing gear.

And totally agree with your Sony comment.

I agree totally. Using Sony for the first time the blacks were good but not as good as JVC.I had to rewatch  some movies which the Sony Struggled with and the JVC played them flawlessly. Though when watching the bright scenes ( day scenes ) The Sony was impressive.

It hasn't happened again. Just happened once I turned the power off and on and it was okay. I should of taken a picture but will have to when it happens again and send it too JVC. I though they have fixed the issue. Ive seen posts on AVS and Stereonet with some members have had the issue but no one has posted the cause of it.

Does that happen when you play 4k UHD or Blu ray ?

Frank...  eventually in this case it would occur when any content was input..

A reboot /restart would cure it, then it would just appear without warning...sometimes after a HDMI  failed sink???

JVC were in  denial....?

Exactly what I’m getting, denial. “Apparently” I’m the first person in the world to have this issue. ☹️
This issue should of been sorted !!

couple of reviews of n5 in the uk... from avforums,

https://www.avforums.com/reviews/jvc-dla-n5-rs1000-native-4k-projector-review.17398

"JVC DLA-N5 (RS1000) Native 4K Projector Review

While the JVC DLA-N5 may well be the entry-level when it comes to native 4K, the performance on offer is excellent. It might not have the WCG filter of the N7 and NX9 but it still manages to produce some of the best HDR10 images we have seen from a projector at the price point. The only small negative being an overall lack of absolute colour saturation, but it is not something you would notice in isolation and as such is probably not going to any issue for the vast majority of users. The Frame Adapt dynamic tone mapping is a game-changer for JVC and elevates their machines above the competition for balanced, nuanced and effective HDR image quality. That alone is worth the entry price.

SDR as you would expect looks sublime with stunning image accuracy, detail and black levels. Yes, the black floor is ever so slightly raised compared to the outgoing X-series, but you would only notice this moving from one to the other, as we did. In all other respects, the JVC still has the best black levels of any currently available native 4K projector.

Video processing is also very good with no issues when it comes to upscaling content to 4K and motion is also very good with 24fps material. There is a frame interpolation system available if you want to watch big-screen sports and this works fairly well but does add in artefacts at the highest settings. It shouldn’t be used with film or drama content. 3D playback is also very good indeed with no issues with obvious crosstalk of ghosting within images. Alita: Battle Angel looked stunning in 3D on the big screen and it is nice to see manufacturers continuing to add this to projectors like the N5.

If you want to add in the wide colour gamut filter to that excellent HDR then you will need to step up to the JVC DLA-N7 which Steve reviewed for the site, but be prepared for the jump in price point. You could also consider the Sony VPL-VW570ES that remains as a current model even though we reviewed it back in 2018. It has many of the features the DLA-N5 has but I certainly feel the HDR on the JVC would sway me if I had to make the choice. Obviously, at the time of this review, it is difficult to demo any equipment, but I would recommend a demo at a specialist dealer of both before spending this much on the projector.

Overall, the DLA-N5 is an excellent entry point to native 4K projection from JVC and it offers superb SDR and very good HDR picture quality. The lack of a WCG filter is not a major factor as the image quality with HDR is still some of the best we have yet seen from a projector. We are struggling to find any real negatives with the N5 and as such it comes highly recommended."

Verdict.

The Good
Excellent SDR picture quality
Excellent HDR picture quality
Frame Adapt dynamic tone mapping
Good calibration controls
Excellent black levels and shadow details
Very good 3D playback
Motorised lens shift, zoom, focus

The Bad
No motorised lens cover
Slightly lacking absolute colour saturation for HDR
Auto Calibration needs to feature all high-end meters"Slightly lacking absolute colour saturation for HDR"

giving it the highly recommended award.

and also from uk  hifi choice where given "best buy"

HI everyone!

I've had an Epson TW-9300 for approaching two years now, and while I've really enjoyed it I've always been a little frustrated that it only has 10Gbps HDMI, so there's no decent way of getting "4K" 60 in games (I do have a hdfury linker so get around it a bit, but still not ideal).

Anyway, with the new consoles approaching this year I'm seriously considering selling the Epson and picking up something else, and the N7 certainly has my attention :D  Just curious if there are any plans for anything new out of JVC anytime soon that I should potentially wait for? And would you guys still recommend the N7 at this stage?

I should say I'll be playing a fair few games on it, but most of my usage is still movies.

Thanks !

it wouldnt be ideal hansel, no idea why epson and sony went this way in early days, where likes jvc always had full bandwidth. 4k 60 is not a problem with either previous gen or current gen JVC with the hdmi chipset they have.

havent seen anything hansel, i am not sure anything coming out the factories at moment. china coming out of lockdown but japan seems to be going other way. dont suspect we will have a cedia this year, where traditionally we'd see releases. earliest maybe CES early next year. by time we see something from that might be around this time next year.

not sure what supposed to improve upon either, if anything comes cant imagine be anything more than incremental, but if the case it wouldn't warrant a new release. thank good ness tact they have taken is to offer some decent improvements via updates and such instead. I am literally blown away with the N7, no matter what throw at it from any my sources (pana9000, oppo 205, appletv4k, xboxoneX, fetch tv) it is very impressive. While mostly and large screen viewing on the projector, we do gaming too with the jvc,  eg forza the other day. racing is great on big screen and surrounded with sound as well as if really on the race track :D

can definitely recommend the n7 :)
