Need a new TV - a few questions

Recommended Posts

My TV is dying, so what to buy?

Sound is not an issue as it will be linked into my system - via TOSLINK because my AVR is > 10 years old so no back channel(?).

Q1: STB or TOSLINK?

Budget is < $1,300.

Screen size at least 50".

Q2: Are there any brands to steer clear of? Or are they all from the same factory but just come out of a different door?

Q3: Conversely, are there any "don't go past" brands?

Q4: Other?

TIA

EDIT: BTW, I live 600km southwest of Townsville so just dropping into a store is out of the question.

HI,

I would go with SONY - X90F - KD55X9000F - 55" 4K UHD TV because of it's really good upscaling processor X1™ Extreme.

It's for $1,799 at Bing Lee. You might find it on special/open box for less.

Bear in mind that the original post states a budget of $1300 or less.

I grabbed one of these recently for an entertainment area and was impressed , if Harvey down in Emerald has one in the store you could zip in to collect and save a little freight.

I have read that the upscaling on this model may not be us to scratch. True?

BTW: Will go to Townsville when I have a (really) shortlist. It's about the same distance and time.

Seems ok to me - YMMV -  priorities have been mainly sports and the betting totes.

The flicks may be a different story.

Good luck with the hunt.

I'm now thinking of these two:

$1,196 - Hisense P6 65" Series 6 4K UHD Smart LED TV (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/hisense/hisense-p6-65-series-6-4k-uhd-smart-led-tv/636018/)

and

$1,395 - LG UK6340 65" UHD AI Smart LED TV (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/lg/lg-uk6340-65-uhd-ai-smart-led-tv/358658/).

OK, the LG is above my budget, but who knows what a smile and some fast talking can achieve?

So, what is the considered opinion of the collective wisdom of the intelligentsia?
