Wayne Richards
Hi everyone, Thank you for having me. Have been in bands most of my life and have always had a love for music. Have just started on the restoration of my fathers 70’s Marantz system and hoping to return it to its former glory because I remember how good it sounded when I was a kid. Am here hoping to call on the groups knowledge and help out if I can. Thank you Wayne

Zaphod Beeblebrox
As the ex-service manager for Marantz back in the mid-late 1970s, I have a passing familiarity with the products. What model/s do you have? BTW: My predecessor at Marantz (Peter Stein) lives in Kuranda.

Have a 6110a turntable that just needed a new belt , stylus and clean.A 1070a amp that’s currently away being serviced and recapped ... had a pretty bad hum.A 104a tuner that seems fine apart from a couple of blown lamps ... have ordered a led kit from the states. And a pair of HD 770’s that just needed the pots serviced. Was pretty surprised they all powered up after sitting unused for 15 year or so !! Only things I would like to chase down Eventually is a 140 power amp and a matching tape deck... I think it’s a 5220 ? It’s beautiful up at Kuranda ... wouldn’t mind being up there myself. Do you collect yourself ? Wayne

Very reliable and tough as boots. I'm surprised that yours has a fault. 24 minutes ago, Wayne Richards said: A 104a tuner that seems fine apart from a couple of blown lamps ... have ordered a led kit from the states. Meh. 24 minutes ago, Wayne Richards said: And a pair of HD 770’s that just needed the pots serviced. Very nice. Drop dead gorgeous to boot. 24 minutes ago, Wayne Richards said: Was pretty surprised they all powered up after sitting unused for 15 year or so !! A huge deck though. Much wider than the 104 and 1070. Built like a brick outhouse. 24 minutes ago, Wayne Richards said: It’s beautiful up at Kuranda ... wouldn’t mind being up there myself. Do you collect yourself ? Wayne I do have a collection of sorts, but my main focus is on vintage test equipment. I do have a Marantz Model 500 though. I've knocked back a few significant offers on the amp over the years. Only 300 in existence. https://audio-database.com/MARANTZ/amp/model500-e.html
Wayne Richards
That’s a beast of an amp !!! Do you know which model tape deck was the matching one in width ?

Do you know which model tape deck was the matching one in width ? The Model 500 pre-dates Marantz cassette decks. So, probably none. I used mine with a Marantz SD9000 and, after that, a Nakamichi 1000ZXL.
