audiofeline
Looking though my box of misc. cart's I found a"induced magnet cartridge". - I'm not familiar with the "induced magnet" type, how is it different to a MM? - I couldn't find any info on the Sony VM-266 online - does anyone have any info (eg. stylus type, is it worth keeping, etc.). thanks. aussievintage
I believe there will be a fixed magnet on the cart, or non-moving part of the stylus assembly, close to the moving iron pieces on the cantilever. The magnetic field is thus induced, rather than having magnets mounted actually on the cantilever.
Number 9
Ortofon were the first to do this, @aussievintage describes it correctly. Electric Guitar Pickups work the same way. Ortofons VMS series (Variable Magnetic Shunt) were IMNRHO among the finest non-MC cartridges ever made.
