Extra Info:

Equinox Audio is a Sydney-based loudspeaker manufacturer producing a range of speakers from modest sized bookshelf's up to extremely large floor standing loudspeakers.

The Apogee is the third from the top of their range and is suitable for medium to large sized rooms. Current rrp is $11,400. Web page: Apogee Loudspeaker.

These are large, heavy loudspeakers that can take as much amplification as you have to give them. With a nominal impedance of 2 ohms, they can be a tricky load for some amplifiers. They're very efficient at 94dB @ 1W/1M, but don't be fooled -- they need a powerful, solid state amplifier to get them to really open up.

When driven with a good amplifier, these speakers can really fill the room with a big, but still controlled sound.

They're built SOLID (each speaker weighs over 100kg) and feel like hitting a brick when you tap them. The front baffle is 60mm thick, while the side walls are 32mm thick. Definitely pick-up only and a two to three man job to handle.

Overall, they're in very good condition, but side of one speaker shows some lightning due to sunlight (see picture). The picture makes it look worse than it is, but I wanted to show the effect.

The speakers have been updated over the years to keep them in current spec. The bass drivers are the current model, Alcone AC 6.5HE. The tweeters are Scan Speak D2904/710002 Revelator, while they still have the original mid-range driver, the still highly regarded Audax HM100Z0.

I lusted over these back in the day. Wonder if my ME550-II is good enough for these (too bad my amp is currently broken)?   I've got the Aphelions but have not had them upgraded.

I've use an ME550-II with these speakers and the combination works beautifully. The amp is definitely a high current design and has more than enough power to make them sing.

As awesome as those speakers are there is no way they'd be suitable for my smallish room. The Neptunes on the other hand would be much more appropriate. Wonder if Rick still builds new speakers or is still just doing upgrades.

I can't believe you are asking for so little money for these.
