Just had a read of the stereophile review and they reckon they will become an all time classic. Gary the music monster 🎶

They may well, Gary (become an all time classic).

But they are not (as was said in Bunno's post) 'ribbon' speakers!   They are 'planar magnetic' - at best "quasi ribbon' (to use Magnepan's sneaky marketing term).

For me, one of the great things about entering the world of magneplaner ownership was how it solved/resolved the whole dilemma of stereo speaker purchase and cognitive dissonance that is often caused.
I bought my first pair of Maggie 111a’s 30-years ago (or more[emoji848]). Thoroughly enchanted with their sound, when time came to upgrade, I simply purchased the new model - no audition was required. My thinking was (is), if you love the Maggie sound, then the new model is going to deliver more of the same...only better!
So my upgrades have been done without even auditioning.
I now run 20.7’s, and if my finances (and listening room) ever stretch to 30.7’s, then I would buy these the same way.
I do audition other types of speakers from time to time just to see what is happening in the market.
Happy in my Maggie ecosystem [emoji846]
Cheers

For me, I heard a pair of Tympanis in about 1980 and I was just transfixed, in lust of you will. But, the timing and circumstance wasn't right. I went through various iterations of cone/box speakers for number of years after that, but in the early 90's I wanted to support a great local designer and went with Ambience ribbon hybrids, which were great, and I enjoyed then for a long time but in the end, they just didn't quite do it for me. A couple of years ago, the circumstances were right and it was a case of, I've been in lust for more than 30 years, f**k it, I'm getting Maggies. At the time, the 3.7i's seemed a really good fit, I'd heard them and been blown away at a local hi-fi show, and Bill duly got my business. Have never regretted it, the sound was a revelation, the absolute three dimensional sound stage that you could walk into and around, just astonishing, the details, the engagement, I could go on, but hopefully you get my drift.  I will NEVER buy another pair of conventional speakers.

Yep me too.

Was actually at Domayne looking for an AV receiver many years ago and had a great chat with one of the sales people who told me about these flat panel speakers - magnepans.

It just so happened that Bill's store was 5 minutes from my place. A couple of weeks later I made my way into the store and heard the 3.7's.

Quite literally 5 seconds of listening and I was transfixed and as @andyr would say once you go flat you never go back.

I have just never come across a pair of speakers that can give you that wall of sound and "air" that maggies give you.

Its difficult trying to explain what "air" means but if you are a maggie owner you will get it.

I have been very very fortunate to have built a home theatre system consisting of the 1Ds, MMG;s and MGMC1s. For good measure I have the IIIAs for upstairs.

Yep me to . I feel there’s no better sounding speakers in the world than Maggie’s. My 30.7s deliver exactly what I was always after but never got out of box speakers. Gary the music monster 🎶

What?! I thought they don't upgrade their models for years!

I'm sure the sound won't be that much different anyways. :)

Mmm...

You have to remember that there will always be an ultimate to beat the "ultimate"! Hence, in all my experience there simply is no ultimate, it's only a "mind set... "

If this is the case then Magnepan have clearly lost the plot! Or I'm suspecting that someone has been put to task in order to get those flaws corrected in the previous version, and quickly address these aspects by creating a slightly modified version, so call it the "i".

Magnepan also did this very same thing with the MG3.7 first, only later on to introduce the 3.7i

However, that "i" series took a little while, a few years the most, to be introduced, and so it was well received.

Now this is completely a shot in the foot! Having the 30.7 just launched, fresh out of the oven... And received all sorts of mixed reviews, of which many demos across the US weren't positive, and now they Re-introduced the very same model with an "i" series, oh boy, here we go again...

This is also not going to go well with current customers, people who have already placed orders for the previous version and still waiting for delivery!

Definitely not a good sign, in fact quite a foolish move. Anyway, they have their own reasons, all the best to them.

G-man, I wouldn't bother about it too much, afterall the 30.7's are the top of the line in the Maggie line up. Who knows what they've done with this one, I'm wondering whether it's a typo...

Take it easy mate, just enjoy what you have.

Cheers, RJ

Where are you seeing that?

I can’t find anything online about a 30.7i model
