black friday deals - should I jump on anything?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.  The missus has been keen to get a new 55-65" telly.  I know very little about them (and frankly would rather not have a tv all together!).  Having said that, I note there may be good deals to be had today (and I assume over the weekend).

Our needs:

- 55" (ideal) but consider up to 65" (don't want it to dominate the room

- sitting distance about 2.8-3m

- very bright/natural light filled room during day (assume will require a properly backlit model)

- kids use playstation.  We also use Netflix, SBS on demand, ABC online,  and FTA telly.  No intention of getting any other subscription/pay TV.  Very rarely play (non Blueray) DVD's.

- sound not important as always run via 2 channel stereo

Looking at reasonable quality - Sony/Panasonic/Hisense

Thoughts?

Mat

Nah. They were $2800 so 1500 just wouldn’t happen.

David Jones has the Panasonic FZ950 55" OLED for $1800.

You might have access to 'gift cards'' which give a further discount on buying the gift card, or DJ rewards.

Some others have this TV at a similar price.  2018 model.

I bought a Hisense 50P7 a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with. At $795 an amazing updgrade over our old 32inch 2010 Panasonic😉

Main disappointment was the lack of RCA audio out. I plug into a 2ch mid-fi amp without HDMI or Optical/DAC so was stuck for sound. Ended up having to use the headphone output to RCA for full sound. Not my first choice.
