Janus77
just knocked one of my wharfdale bookshelf speakers off a 70cm stand onto the carpet (hard carpet). My amp's out of action until early next year when i will have it repaired. What are the chances i've damaged the speaker?
BATMAQN
Speakers drivers are pretty tough I'd be more worried about the cabinet did it get damaged?
Janus77
The cabinet looks ok, it made a pretty solid “think” when it hit, nothing cracked on the outside anyway.
BATMAQN
Well you won't know until you try it but it should be ok.
Decky
Now you have to drop the other one in exactly the same way - hi-fi is all about stereo symmetry and consistency. 3
surprisetech
To be on the safe side, before re-connecting that speaker to an amp it's probably worth checking across the input terminals with a multimeter to make sure the drop hasn't caused any short circuit. The resistance measurement should be a little lower than the speakers impedance spec. e.g. Roughly around 75-80%. If it measures a lot lower, then you might have a problem.
