CDs, DVDs, and Blu Ray disks cannot possibly retain any magnetism. Static charge, perhaps, but eliminating such a charge is as simple as wiping with a damp cloth. A demagnetiser cannot possibly hope to achieve anything. In fact, the only demagnetisers that are/were of any use are with tape machines. Tape heads, being comprised of ferro-magnetic alloys, can retain small amounts of magnetism and should be demagnetised regularly. Same goes for any guides that are made from ferro-magnetic materials. As for you last paragraph, the issue of speaker cables is well understood and the audible differences can be quantified easily. Interconnects are somewhat more difficult to quantify, but measurements exist to show those differences. There is, of course, no difference between any properly constructed, rated and terminated mains power leads. Thanks Zaph, I wasn't aware that there is now quantifiable evidence on the quality of speaker/interconnects. It's reassuring to know. I disagree with "There is, of course, no difference between any properly constructed, rated and terminated mains power leads." There is at least one quantifiable difference - the amount retailers/manufactures are willing to over-charge suckers for their over-rated products!
vivianbl
I still have an Akai demagnetiser from the 70s/80s. I could zap my CDs with that. [emoji2]Do you reckon it would work? Might get it out and give it a try anyway. Do you think I should do a DBT on this? [emoji848]Just to make sure.
