cazzesman
Toto at Festival Hall. They came, they saw, they conquered. If you are a Toto fan you know they are more than just their 3 world wide, iconic hits. In a 2 hour show you obviously get those 'Top 40' hits, but you also get sublime musicianship that can and will blow away the vast majority of bands. That A Grade talent was all on show last night. When the Toto music factory gets cranked up they have zero problems lifting the roof from Festival Hall. The old Dame was pretty well packed last night. Both sides full, upstairs full and the huge floor area was teeming with bodies. The response they gave the band for the full 2 hours was truly amazing. Luke looked genuinely 'chuffed' at the level of excitement and OTT applause post each tune. Love was in the air for sure. I doubt Luke has ever played better. He just ripped in to a masterclass of guitar playing that left you smiling from ear to ear. He still plays like a 17 yr old with something to prove. New kid Dominique Xavier Taplin (26 yrs old and Ex Prince band member) was filling the Keyboard shoes for the ill David Paich and he was a pure joy to watch. Great vibe to his style and easily matched the standard set by the rest of the band. Luke stated he had 2 days to learn the set after a late call up and he has smashed it out of the park every night. The highlight for me was the vocals of Joseph Williams. I must admit I had some small reservations going into the show about how he was sounding based on some YouTube viewing. There was never a worry in the world from the get-go as he was stunning. Never missed a note and like Luke I would think is in career best form. Highlights for me were Jake to the Bone, Dune, Girl Goodbye, While my Guitar Gently Weeps. Oh yeah, the Iconic 3 were damn fine as well. Couldn't fault the show from my perspective. After a muddy first song the sound man matched the guys on stage and he soon had the sound near on perfect. Judging by the response the band got I suspect they will be back sooner rather than later. Brilliant. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/toto/2019/festival-hall-melbourne-australia-5b9423a8.html 34.21 the start of Jake to the Bone.
