Luckiestmanalive
Hiya - I possibly saved a Dual 505-2 from a trip to the tip. It needs a new pitch belt (it has perished, unsurprisingly) and thought I should get a new drive belt at the same time. I see Malvern Audio in the UK provide the pair for about $AU40 delivered. Are there any Dual TT owners that can provide me a better option (i.e. reliable, cheaper and closer to home)? Zaphod Beeblebrox
The pitch belt is a tricky one. You need an original. The drive belt is easier. Wagner Electronics can supply a suitable replacement. You can survive without a pitch belt, by adjusting the speed (if necessary) and living with it. Nice catch, BTW. The 505-2 (3, 4 et al) is a rip-snorter.
Luckiestmanalive
Thanks, ZB! I picked it up off Megawolf as he has not used it for years, I think. Unfortunately, while I have got it spinning again (fixed the old stiff microswitch problem) there is a very loud hum from the amp even when the ground wire is attached. My Plinius 9200 amplifier has a very fine phono preamplifier that is normally connected to a ProJect Debut III without problem so that isn't the source of the hum. The ground wire is OK and I've tested the continuity between the tonearm pins and the RCA pins, which looks OK but for the negative (outer) on the left (white) RCA. Also, I'm unsure what the cartridge is as Megawolf doesn't remember and I can't see any markings on it.
niss_man
I have a 505-2 that had excessive hum. It ended up being the old capacitors for the motor needed replacing.
