Not your average amp, that oto :thumb:

I agree. Anyone looking at an integrated with efficient speakers (subject to budget) should try and audition one. In my experience I found focal to be bright so the Oto may help tame them somewhat. Also in a bedroom situation it may have enough power.

For late night listening my LS50s can get louder than necessary by a 300b SET 8 wpc.

What's all this "quiet, late night listening", H?

I like to listen at the same 'loud' at 12 noon ... or 12 am (if I'm ever up that late!  ).

There was another Audio Note amp in the classifieds last week.....would have been worth a look also with 18 Watts.

Hope you enjoy the amp...:thumb:

I know but Two big boxes is too much for my bedroom.

Oleg is an electronics technician of over 40 years experience so I think he has a reasonable grip on what would be required..

It means the volume at 7 clock, max 8.

I agree. I have done research and think I need a single end 7 - 10W amp.  Why heat the room and waste electricity?

Now I am looking for a good quality SET kit but there are too many on the market. Which one?

Thanks Oleg, - I'm aware of that.  My comment was simply a dig at Happy - why on earth do you want to listen to music at such low levels?  :)

Another solution is to have 2 amps one SET and another SS....I’m listening to my Luxman paired to the LS50s now.

Then avoid SE of any kind. Avoid valve amps too. SE amps are THE most inefficient amplification available. A 500 Watt Class D amp will produce less heat.

Here's a thought: Try out a bunch of different amps. Do not limit yourself to a specific technology and power level. Listen to SE valves, PP valves, Class A SS, Class A/B SS and Class D.

You may be very surprised at what you hear, once you dispense with your preconceptions.

If you want the best SE valve amps available, at the most reasonable prices, yet still demanding the highest build quality, you cannot go past Earle's products:

Excellent sound quality, combined with the finest construction quality available anywhere at any price.
