LX_4_MAN
Though i should start keeping track of all my gear and projects ! Because my listening room is less than ideal in my current house most stuff is stored and all projects are done at work instead. This weekend i cleaned up a pair of tannoy eatons to reasonable shape ! Just missing a badge now , gave the cabinets a light sand and varnish and replaced all bolts with allan keys, not as original i know but looks a damn lot cleaner and wood looks deeper , crossovers seem good for now and no drivers issues ! Very punchy little system 10
LX_4_MAN
Main system consists of yamaha ns1000's (and a less than optimal room) a yamaha as501 , cambridge audio 640cd disc spinner and nps303 network player , just purchased a cayin a88t to enter the world of tubes but WAF is low on that so must wait until i have my own hifi room in the future, 5

LX_4_MAN
Today the addiction has lead me to pair number 10 , diatone ds2000's [emoji119] will be doing some listening to these over the weekend on call
Guest
Very nice, they'll probably give the Yamahas a run for the money!
unclemack
Very keen to hear how those Diatones stack up against the Yammys.
Willmax
Nice score @Lx4man They sound very nice and look a lot more stylish than the NS-1000m. I had the opportunity to briefly audition a pair on one of my Melbourne trips.
LX_4_MAN
Hey guys so today i did a bit of listening between the ns1000's and ds2000's in my less than ideal area , used the cayin 88t to dive them and either streamer or cd as a source , played many genres and recording, fleetwood mac ,Angus and julia stone , Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture ,beethoven violin concerto , the eagles, when hell freezes over, london grammar , miles davis and some thundercat , first thing I've found is the diatones have a more warmer less forward sound while still convaying all the detail , the bass is much fuller but still has tonal accuracy and punch and of coarse goes much lower, imaging i found was maybe slightly better than the 1000m's but since i have had them on stands i borrowed from a friend ive found the 1000's image very well contrary to what many say , the diatone tweeter does seem better in the sense that you can listen to it all day without it ever sounding over bright and still has all that magical decay of instruments, what the yamahas seem to do better is space around the instruments, you still can pick out various instrument positions in the soundstage with the dia's nicely but yamaha can sound like instruments are beyond the room , maybe some tweaker of positions ect with the diatones will bring that out , its only day 1 and i can see why people love these Mitsubishi speakers , they bring allot of pros over the ns1000s bit by any means the 1000s are not shamed , just the added body to the sound and more relaxed treble and mid while still portraying a similar detail makes the ds2000s sit somewhere as a good compramise between the ns1000 and ns2000 but thats a comparison ill leave for the future If you have the chance to buy a pair for a good price i would say you won't be disappointed
Tony ray
Seeing how your just down the Great road, which ones would you grab if there is a bushfire heading our way?
LX_4_MAN
Seeing how your just down the Great road, which ones would you grab if there is a bushfire heading our way?Yes that's a fair and real decision, which one should i sacrafice in an act of god is a real decision for anyone living in the scrubs of Lorne, as you can see from my backdrop , hopefully if us out here in the sticks sacrafice enough goats we won't have to make that decision again but if it had to be a pair i would sacrifice the common black ns1000m's , 200,000 strong means i could definitely find more [emoji6]

LX_4_MAN
One of my favorites! Yamaha ns2000's I sold one set of these but still have pair remaining in my collection! Such a beautifully built speaker system
LX_4_MAN
Not allot is known allot but these on the net or maybe just outside of japan , they were onkyo's competitor against yamaha , very surprising too , the cabinet finish is not up with the Yamaha but cabinet build is just as solid and the drivers without a doubt are just as substantial s the ns2000, the onkyo woofer actually has an even larger magnet , I had to re do the suspensions on these but well worth it , sound wise they are quite clinical and very similar in mids and highs to the yams, maybe not quite the micro detail as the beryllium drivers but still very good , the bass though goes lower than the ns2000s with more punch as well which is very impressive !

LX_4_MAN
Lovely. Very interested in your thoughts on how these sound! Will do some listening over the next few weeks and few comparisons between these and the ns1000's as they were around the same price point in japan and most people have heard ns1000's , in saying that the sonys are very impressive build quality, design and material's plus very heavy so they must not of made a massive profit off these new
LX_4_MAN
Time to start another restore project today , these are onkyo scepter 603a's i got from japan circa 1974, they were priced at 210,000 jpy the pair new which is only a a few $ less than the ns1000 so were fairly pricey and very well built at around 30kg ea ! These were another jap domestic product so unusual to see , cabs need a sand and re varnish and crossovers will get a good going over with some new caps , will post pics as i go
LX_4_MAN
Apart from this i have spent my spare time cycling through various pairs of tannoys in my collection
LX_4_MAN
Heres the onkyo drivers ! Quality is amazing as with allot of upmarket domestic japanese items , bass driver has large magnet and cast frames with a fiberglass spider arrangement ,frame is all smoothed and crinkle finish painted , mid horn is super heavy and made to the same finish and the tweeter is spun from a solid block of aluminum 3
LX_4_MAN
Looks like things a due for a freshen up in the crossovers after 46 years, some new dayton audio precision caps should be an upgrade
LX_4_MAN
got some new caps into these finally , seeing most of the old caps had drifted far away the sound difference is amazing ! No more imbalanced and muffled presentation ! Nice big soundstage with plenty of detail and nice crisp highs ! The hornsare not shouty in anyway either ! Onkyo got it spot on with the scepter series ! While they were apart I also gave the cabinets some love with a quick sand and some new varnish ! Time to kick back ,enjoy and let the caps settle in now
