aussievintage
I have read on overseas forums, about 45s made from styrene and how it can wear faster. Just wondering... Were any Australian made 45 rpm singles made from it, or were ours all vinyl? How can you tell styrene from vinyl - does it look different? EV Cali
Been going through my singles, acquired over the last 40 years, recently. Cleaning and playing, deciding what ones to keep. Found this great funky single in them "Too many people" by Cold Blood. Cleaned it twice with ultrasonic cleaner but ,although it looked clean, could not get rid of distortion on some notes. Having just read the links provided, I Had a closer look and it is a Styrene !!!!!
Wimbo
I'll have to look at mine, mainly from mid 60's to early 70's.
aussievintage
Yep, having read about the square edge and more brittle material - I know I have one too. The brittleness has resulted in the crack. I notice if you tap it, it has a lighter sound than vinyl as well. (appropriate artist name too ) Again, a US pressing. Looks like we didn't do styrene here, thankfully Edited September 5, 2018 by aussievintage
