Please recommend 4k Atmos streaming device for Netflix

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been using a Telstra Roku player for YouTube and Netflix. I've upgraded to 4k and Atmos.

What streamers are good for this ? I did like the Roku but my old one is 1080p.

XBOX 👍

Bought it for my son and have been blown away by the Atmos sound it produces.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I might try using my GTX1080 based pc for a bit and then later see if I can get a new Roku.

Was going to suggest the Nvidia Shield but it appears Netflix Atmos is about the only thing it doesn't do.

Quote

No. Even though the Shield can handle both Atmos thru True HD and DD+, Netflix has not enabled it. The only devices that Netflix has Atmos support are the LG Oleds, Sony Bravia, Windows 10 and Xbox One/S/X

Say it again.... XBox is phenomenal.

Outputs all sources in ATMOS.

The Xbox is great for Atmos, but is awful if you need to change between Dolby Vision/HDR and non Dolby Vision/HDR. 4K SDR is treated as HDR and lessons quality.

Apple TV 4K is best overall device.

I have one and as a 4k player and 4k streamer I would say its a good gaming platform :D this I say vs the dedicated streamer in atv 4k or players in the ones have owned/have. If wanting something that does both it is probably a best compromise ? :)

in the same vein I wouldn't suggest the players  I've owned that have streaming built in are best solution either, in same way is neither a stb with streaming capability as good as say the apple tv 4k :) you'd expect this I guess. most dedicated things are quite accomplished at what they are specifically designed for....

I heard Apple TV , Xbox... blue ray player Sony x700 ...What are you using to get atmos...from Netflix. I have just got my home theatre installed. Epson 9400 and Yamaha 3070 with 4 in ceiling speakers...is setup in addition to normal speakers.

passin it hasn't changed, the king of streamers is still the appletv 4k. you can get all manner of other things but they are buggy and can trip up. i have the xbox oneX it is a streamer it is still a good gaming machine :D for usability, and stability I personally wouldnt waste your time with anything else

and especially when see how cheap they go for...why bother with anything else...

Thanks betty boop. Apple 4k is good and can stread atmos. However, I may have to buy a separate Blue ray player if I want to play discs. What about the blue ray players that can stream netflix with atmos?

AppleTV 4K will give you so much more flexibility than a built in app on  a bluray player.  You can also stream  catch up TV with SBS,  channel 9 etc , as well as other streaming services and iTunes etc. Not to forget airplay ability for local video and music sources.  Its Picture quality is outstanding too.

These devices are tiny , take up no space and there is no real reason to compromise IMO.

agree tasso. most of the streamers are terrible in use let alone in results most also cant even stream in native format of streamed material forcing frame rates up for instance to what player can only handle... which his not a good thing !

Panasonics 820, 9000 can, but it forces 60Hz so does not support native framerates. I personally would rather use the appletv and haven't even set it up on the Panasonic 9000. But looking at the thread I'm on on AVS forum for the 820 and 9000, they both do atmos for netflix. Prime I think it has an issue with atmos _I think_. I've never used it either.

Anyone have any other options that do Atmos and native frame rate? I'm really sick of the ATV 4k, both from stupid network dropout issues (even though I'm on Ethernet, right next to the router), continually being asked to login on start-up, and the god awful on screen notifications over content that you can't disable. I'm on a 100M NBN plan, and I'm also not that impressed with image quality, banding like on The Grand Tour.

99% of stuff in the projector /HT is disc based, and every time I use ATV and steaming in the HT I'm just chronically disappointed, and think I should has just watched it upstairs on the old TV and  1080p Apple Tv
