LHH
Hi All, I know absolutely nothing of electronics, so I'm looking for a little guidance. Here's the situation: I recently bought a fitPC3 with the intention of using it as a silent NAS/DLNA server. It's beautifully built, low power, tiny (about the size of a discman), and is totally silent with an SSD. It came with a 12v dc switching power supply (mechanically locking 2.5/5.5 barrel plug), which was unfortunately DOA. I have a Teddy Pardo 2/12 linear power supply, which should run it fine, but the cable that came with the Teddy Pardo has a 2.1mm plug, while the fitPC3 requires a 2.5mm (preferably locking) plug. I do have a 2.1mm to 2.5mm plug adaptor, but while it is long enough, the barrel is too fat to fit through the hole in the case -- I've attached photos so you can see what I mean. While the connection is solid and there's no chance of the adaptor falling out, I'm concerned that the metal plate at the base of the plug sits against the metal case of the PC... Is this something to worry about (I haven't turned things on yet)? ? Thanks for you help! Edited July 29, 2018 by LHH
andyr
Why not get a tech to replace the 2.1mm plug on your Teddy Pardo with a 2.5mm plug? Andy

Andy Yes, that is certainly an option, as is purchasing another cable (which is what I'll do if the adaptor is not a goer). But since I already have the adaptor... Gieseler Audio
It should work fine with the adaptor but long term Andy's advice is the best.
a.dent
I've used one of those adapters on a Squeezebox Touch for years and no problems. Also tried one on my sMS-200 before changing the plug myself. Changing the plugs is really pretty simple and a good introduction to soldering! https://www.jaycar.com.au/2-5mm-dc-power-line-connector-14mm-shaft/p/PP0512 https://www.jaycar.co.nz/2-5mm-dc-power-line-connector-14mm-shaft/p/PP0512 or if you want to get fancy https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oyaide-DC-2-5G-24K-Gold-Plated-DC-Power-Connector-plug-high-qyality-Japan-/142211490482 Edited August 1, 2018 by a.dent Missed the NZ location first time
LHH
Thanks all. Went and bought a soldering iron and a multimeter and made a new cable.
