How good is Taboo?!

Love this kind of show. Bit biased for Hardy also.

I don't mind it. 3 episodes in.

BTW, there is already a thread here you might want to use in future.

Hey if I may hijack - can I confirm that SBS on demand is no longer available on PS4?  It used to work fine.....??  I also can't get it on WDLive.  Would it work if I played on a computer/ipad to maybe a Chromecast streamer?  Mat

Yep, loving it. Very dark. Will watch the last episode tomorrow. The missus loves Poldark. This is what Poldark should be like.

I use Kodi with the Aussie replay TV add on and it’s great - bonus is that you can also get AFL if you are a Telstra customer

I agree, but the gap between series 3 and 4 has been so long that it's taken a bit of effort to pick the plot up again.  A bit of a flash-back at the start would have been helpful.

Hi Alan

I haven’t started series 4 yet, but purchased series 1-3 recently on DVD. Watched S3 about a month ago, so should be up to speed.

But yeah....it’s been a long wait and a re-cap would be helpful.

SBS on Demand: The Plague

https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/the-plague

< During an outbreak of the bubonic plague in the magnificent Seville of 1597, Mateo, a former soldier, returns, honouring his word to find and extract a dead friend’s son from the city. Previously, Mateo had been forced to flee the city to save his life, having been sentenced to death by the Inquisition for printing forbidden books. Before he can complete his task, Mateo is arrested by the Inquisitor’s bailiffs, who promise to pardon his life in exchange for solving a series of crimes of diabolic overtones being committed in Seville. >

It's murky, shot mostly in the shadows, gritty viewing, slowly you're hooked!

I recommend Counterpart. Especially if you don't read there synopsis before starting.

I Am Not Your N3gro (2017)

A doco about James Baldwin (an American philosopher, playwright and civil rights activist, whom in my ignorance I never heard of before watching this) and his take on American society through exploring the legacy of his 3 friends Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jnr (all three murdered in the 60s), based on an unfinished 30 odd page script from late 70's titled Remember This House. A fascinating doco with kick-ass archival footage and photos as well as superb narration by Samuel L. Jackson (in the manner of James Baldwin), plus an awesome soundtrack that really hooks into the memory.

The word N3gro is in the title of the doco. Gotta write it somehow.

Have to give it a look. I’m assuming Sam Cooke is in the Sountrack?

You might like Remastered: The Two Killings of Sam Cooke on Netflix

Mother and Child (2009)

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mother_and_child/

A touch too long and a bit late to introduce some plot points (eg major developments towards the end of 2nd third do it a bit of disservice) however packs quite a punch emotionally and dramatically. Annette Bening - I doubt has ever acted better than here. A well rounded powerhouse of a film and wouldn't expect any less from writer/director Rodrigo Garca and executive producer Alejandro Gonzlez Irritu, as well as the kick-ass cast Samuel L. Jackson, Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Kerry Washington, Jimmy Smits, Amy Brenneman and others (too many to mention). Cannot believe I haven't seen it before. Available on SBS OnDemand and Netflix.

There is also an official soundtrack by Alexei Aigu, but I guess that's more atmospherics, background mood and the general vibe of the story type music in shortish snippets (less than 25 mins all up).
