Extra Info:

Up for grabs is my much adored Klipsch Lascala Speakers.

I have owned these for approx. 10 - 15 years.  Before me, the previous owner had them stored in a garage for countless years.

The time has come to move on, and as you can see, my room is pretty full.  These speakers have struggled to breathe properly for a decade, I think I should show some mecry and let them find a new home, one where their new owner will give them a back yard to run around and breathe freely.

Also, just a change in direction, a change in sound . . . . after all, it has been a decade of the same sound.

I will consider a swap plus cash either way for Floor Standers, with minimum 8” Drivers.  They must be sonically awesome, dig deep and have a punchy bass, plus all the rest of awesomeness.  Bi or tri amp – able.  I am not afraid of current hungry beasts, as I have Krells sitting here.

Either way, I am on the look out for some serious Floor Standers, even if they choke in my room for a while, I will most likely be relocating so the next house will have a much larger room, so they will be free to breathe again.

These are Original Lascalas with respectively matching serial numbers – 8445600 + 8445601. (see photos)

The paper work is in a folder and was removed when I purchased them to ensure they did not tear or rip when moving.

The price is set at Market price as a set sold on here recently for $4000 .  oops, i did a typo, the last set sold for $5000 in November 2017

This set of Lascala Speakers has almost $1300 of upgrades and is less costly (keep reading further on)

The LaScala’s do have a few scratches and chips on the cabinets, hence the scratches from being in storage.  I have included images to show the imperfections, though not all are shown as I have not moved them out from where they sit, the Krells are heavy.   The Mid-Range Horn paint work has typically deteriorated over the years as with all Klipsch horns. (see photos)

Physically the cabinets, speakers and drivers are in excellent condition.  There is no cabinet rot  or structural damage, they are rock solid  !!

If you would like the cabinets to be visually absolutely perfect I can have them resprayed fabulously in Black for an extra $800, my friends are Kitchen Cabinet Sprayers, or simply enjoy them the way they are, which is musically excellent.

Sonically, well . . . . . set them up, sit back and enjoy crisp live music, everything is perfect.

The HF Horns & Tweeters have been upgraded to:

Eliptrac HF Horn with B + C DE120 Tweeter Drivers, the top of the line upgrade from ALK Engineering. ($220USD)

The Crossovers are also upgraded to:

AP12-600  (mid range crosses in at 600Hz)

AP15-6000 (HF range crosses in at 6000Hz)

(see photos, they are borrowed off the net as the cross over are installed)

Once again from ALK Engineering. ($730USD)

All in all, I paid about $1500aud for the upgrades with delivery. (ALK price list attached from when i purchased)

Since I purchased the crossovers, ALK has changed them a little, therefore you will not see the exact same set up on the Website.

There is a wealth of information from this link:

http://www.alkeng.com/xovers.html

I do have the original Crossovers and Tweeters (tweeters do not work) that you will receive.  I am not too sure about the working condition of the crossovers, as they have sat for years.  The Crossovers and Tweeters come as extras with no complaints.

The LaScala speakers have the Ported Bass Mod added which extends the depth of the Lower Frequency.  There is plenty of information about these in the Klipsch forums.

The Ported Bass Mod can easily be removed, which i can do for you, there is no structural change to the original cabinets.

The extra circle hole cut on the front of one of the Ported Bass Mod is my mistake and does not cut through the mod.

For those that heard these at the 2017 HI Fi Show in Melbourne, you know what you are hearing.

Plus, I am sure lots of SNA’ers know of the Legendary Klipsch LaScala sound.

I can deliver to the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, though please agree on a suitable time, it is a complimentary service or you can pick them up.

Auditions are most welcome for serious interested parties, I also encourage the purchaser to come and have a listen here.

Also, i am happy to do a short payment plan with a trusted buyer with excellent feedback.

If there is anything I have missed I will edit the ad.

I may not reply immediately as I am out and about, so please don’t fuss.  I will reply to everyone interested.

I do live an extremely busy life, so please be patient with me.

Chat Soon

Christopher

Ah sweet !

They are probably the nicest sounding midrange horns i've ever heard so if they are your next project they are going to be amazeballs.

That LaScala bass is pretty special though.  I had stacked Klipschorns many years ago and corner loaded they were lumpy in the bass but had incredible slam and speed.  I changed out the bass drivers which made a very big improvement to the sound.

To which bass driver's? I've placed Crites cast framed 15" woofers to my La Scalas with good results.

They would probably be way better than what i used.  I don't even know if the Crites were available when i was experimenting ala klipschorns.  The drivers that worked really well and were a big improvement over the stock drivers were Altec 421 musical instrument drivers.  Very fast, dynamic and alive.  I tried some others as well including EV (maybe have been ev15m but can't remember) and RCF which were similar to some of the JBLs which were recommended in the day as being good for bass horn duty.

I loved most of the time the stacked klipschorns in the bass department apart from being  a little lumpy in response which may well have been the room.  The cabinet resonances were annoying but i got rid of many of those.  What i couldn't live with ultimately was the midrange and treble but in hindsight i have no doubt they could be radically improved with all the mod companies and different options now available.  It would be nice to hear a carefully considered, optimised Klipshcorn again.

On these Lascalas i have added a ported bass mod to the bottom that lowers the bass levels that can come from them.

I have read and heard the 15" Crites woofer is better in lots of forums.

I have also read the 15" Eminence Kappa C woofer driver is even more better than the crites.

There is a Kappa C pro, but this has different parameters and is not quite ideal.

With other 15" woofers such as JBL, i have read the frame is slightly wider and you may need to trim the sides a little to get the woofer into the dog box housing of the lascalas
