So you're not bringing the kayak then?

I’ll bring some kayak stories !!

My wife pointed out that our wedding anniversary is on Sunday - that doesn’t rule me out as I’ve discussed priorities with her and meeting the maker of my speakers and the sage of integrated amps all in one spot trumps an anniversary that comes along the same time every year !!

I will prob catch an overnight Jetstar flight so will need to figure out some logistics like how to get to Mikes and where to crash for the night.

Of course you'd better, things wouldn't be quite right without one of those.

I had a quick primer of what to expect at this GTG today.  I dropped off a couple of Sansuis for Andy to apply a little TLC to and had a good chat with Mike.  Also heard some of the Grandinote gear with ML5s and I have to say, it's a pretty damn impressively not bad system that.  Yes, pretty damn impressively not bad at all!

Check out Tommie Strydom on You Tube.

He caught a marlin from his kayak.

(My wife works for him.)

I admire you guys that go fishing  with kayaks, especially on the ocean.

Plan to start this season doing same, but on the local river :).

I’ll plan on flying into Coolangatta and fly Sunday down to Sydney before I hop home. I’ll pack a sleeping bag so I can crash wherever - just like a rolling stone

I cant do this, I have family stuff on that weekend.

My fingers typed this last night after one Ballast Point Brewing Sculpin IPA.

Then a six pack of Mountain Goat IPA

Then another Ballast Point Brewing Sculpin IPA that I found in the fridge.

Then a Coopers Stout to finish off.

As I sit here at work in front of the computer, I feel like big Matt Preston is bashing two big chrome Masterchef cloches together like cymbals with my baldy head in between them.

Hoping their are clashing symbals and massive bass music in your head :), for abusing the IPA's etc.

Hi Darren,

I am staying a few days this time and I will hire a car.  I had assumed that you would be going along with @Jventer .  I look forward to seeing you both.  It was one reason as to why I am coming.  Also I want to hear a pair of ML5s.   However I could do without being in a car with you if you have pizza for lunch.  I am looking forward to the 4th.

John

Seems @Darren69...may have a reputation...

Now you know why he rides bikes...

No one would let him in their car...:)

Sorry Brother Mike, would love to have come, I could have also made eggs. We'll catch up for the Brissy one I hope! Went past your joint today, had to go up to Brissy to get some leathers (Ricondi racing, great shop). Was a flying trip.

Suddenly, it was all over. Gone was the company, the intensity, and the adventure. Unplugged gear, music still playing to a deaf DAC, a pile of dishes, and the odd can to recycle. A wet tractor seat, and futile attempts to focus on feeding a bunch of swarming hungry beasts up the hill silently yelling 'hey what happened to this global warming thing'. (Icy wind and rain). Back to earth.

I'd been chatting to Anthony for quite a while, so when he mentioned he had one of his Five-Zero-Zero amps ready to send to a client overseas, and would I like to hear it first, what could I say? It was still engaged in its 'soak-in' period, so it could only enhance the amp's performance by coming down and showing its first footsteps to an equally innocent speaker nut in the southern wilderness?

So it turned into a GTG, sadly limited mainly to the 5 people that the 'message' service would allow. I hope not too many others missed the grapevine (sorry).

Anthony turned up with his very classy chauffeur 😉 on Saturday evening; we survived a bit of my cooking, and got into some fairly serious chat before crashing.

This morning we slowly recovered from my overt lack of ostentation, and carefully man-ouvered the this mighty declaration of human achievement into my salubrious listening space.

I admit total exhaustion, after having spent the last few days bulldozing and re-ordering 25 years of junk and treasures to gain a stunning further 22". We had space, in The Barn.

So there it was - my Idealish Server running Snakeoil OS, controlled by my 2nd mITX (Win 10) computer, both on Uptone JS-2 LPSUs, feeding via Curious Cable to the Gieseler Konverter DAC/preamp. Balanced cables then took the goodies to the Holton 500 power amp, and on to my SBAcoustics/Audio Technology/ScanSpeakBe 4-way speakers. Also some input from an Oppo disc player, and some 16/44.1 stuff via optical from the control computer.

The rest is history. Maybe others could join in with impressions of the experience. @soundbyte, @deblur, @henning, @jasonphilip, @Aussieamps

I'm all a bit overwhelmed. And not just by Anthony's very kind words about my speakers.

Feeble thoughts flashed by...     "oh, but you could just leave it here, and I'll post it on", etc.   All a bit like having your child arrested in a foreign country...

Dreadful feelings of loss, seeing it lovingly wrapped up and driven off into the stormy night. And the company too. It's been a very rich few years, connecting with you SNA guys,  following all the joys and tragedies of life.

My ears are forever addicted. That's my amp review for you (for now).

Thanks to you all, and an especially huge one for Anthony. A beautiful crystallization of decades of achievement there!

Sorry you couldn't make it, @Upfront and @davewantsmoore.

So the freakiest thing happened today. While at a lions shed my wife and I found a 1970s National hifi that looked exactly like one I had as a teen 25+ years ago. Bought it for $25, took it home and on closer inspection found it IS my old stereo! I am here because it has faults that I will need guidence on. Here's hoping.

Item: NEW Rega Elicit - R Amplifier
      Location: Melbourne
      Price:   AMP SOLD ELSEWHERE
Item Condition: Brand new, unopened box, delivered yesterday
Reason for selling: Buying a Naim all in one.  This is a new replacement item.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only

      Extra Info:

In December 2018 I bought a Rega Elicit-R for my use in my living area.  I soon realised that  I would be better served having an all in one unit that included a DAC and Streamer.

I was able to buy the initial Rega Elicit - R as an open box special and got a great price.  The amp looked new and worked perfectly.  However, after advertising it here on Stereonet I was packing it up and found the box contained a manual - that indicated it had been sold before!!

The local retailer has been terrific with support and has delivered me a brand new unopened replacement Elicit -R yesterday.

I am going to pass this new item on at the price the first amp cost me.  (I would appreciate it if it was bought for personal use not flipping).

I would much prefer local pick up in Melbourne.

      Nice performance summary by CAV;
Rating at a very understated 105W RMS into 8 ohms, Rega's in-house designed power amp stage is set to pull the carpet out from under your speakers and make them do things you never thought possible.

This has two Sanken Darlington Bipolar Transistors in the output stage which are rated at 150 watts each ... if this were a Japanese amplifier it would be rated at 300RMS as that is what these are capable of. Our local Audio Designer Gary Cawsey points out that these are the best output devices in the world ... none of those cheap Hitachis or Toshibas that proliferate elsewhere.

With the Elicit-R playing Keith Jarrett this amplifier immediately sounds far more expensive than it is. There is that solid spatial portrayal and sense of the presence of the instruments that we are accustomed to with amplifiers with an extra decimal place. Still a definable Brio-R character though with a fullness and solidity that takes the edge away, but matured without the rough parts that tell us that a Brio R is still less than two thousand dollars. The Elicit-R is a very grown up amplifier.

Good balanced review in plain language,  http://www.audiophilia.com/reviews/2016/9/24/j027nrfz2howy3zvaklg5heqh9io1l
