PIONEER FILLS THE OPPO 4K UHD BLU-RAY VOID

well launching in us at cedia october, $999

an upper model with XLRs to compete with/replace the oppo 205...

Intriguing Al ; seems to make a good effort to eradicate noise from the digital signal with the grounding scheme sounding something similar like a xlr balanced circuit  would implement … Zero signal terminal ; whats that ? Matching AVR with an input for it possibly ? Yes likely unbalanced rcas for this model ; got to leave something for the flagship

 Terminals:
› HDMI 2 Out › Digital Audio Out (1 Coaxial, 1Optical) › USB 2 In (1 Front, 1 Rear)› Ethernet› RS-232C› Analog Audio Out
› Zero Signal Terminal

Quote

Zero Signalreference terminal for ultimate video / audio signal the reference level (Ground) of the player and AVR video and audio signals are aligned greatly helping eliminate ground- related noise.  As a result the signal transmission becomes more accurate improving the quality of both video and audio.

Some internal pics of the Pio universal,

https://www.audionet.com.tw/thread-10922-1-1.html

155453b1au7aq8isp78g8g.jpg

Though decidedly underwhelming I would say,

clearly leaving space pace on the right for balanced xlr output board.and space on left for decent toroidal  psu for if when the more upmarket shows... we’ll time will tell.

anyways clearly using pioneer drive. And curiously I see a mediatek chipset (which oppo/cambridge ) also share.

Its pretty obvious the analog circuitry isn't a big priority in this model ; though I notice it has the same dac AK 4490 as a Marantz 8805 . No chance of stray emf with all that space eh B)

Certainly a few more pcb's with a 203 :) ;

Spotted in the wild. Though it was tucked away in a tiny booth, behind a curtain and off the beaten track!

Certainly not a big deal being made about it at all.

Huh ; that's exactly what it is ; grounding for a companion avr ;doh 😀

An interesting add-on, which further improves audio quality, is the special purpose connector port on the back panel. This ‘Zero Signal’ port doesn’t pass through any signals, but is used for extra grounding.

No XLR out.

No wifi or tablet app for control.

No additional USB 3.0.

Utilizing a AKM 4490 and not the latest AKM 4497.

No headphone jack.

im not sure that this will ever fill that OPPO void!

It’s obvious that Pioneer has separated there media players from a universal disc player, where OPPO combined both into the one unit.

Pioneer is Definately not in the market to combined both to fill that void!  Not at the moment!   No while they made a separate dept for media players.

The other thing and I’m sure of is, it will performed, most Pioneer disc players are built to last and there laser units (transport) are built on decade of experience that makes there laser units one of the best if not the best in terms of reliability.  They are indestructible not like the Sony/Philips rubbish,  the Sony/Philips partnership should have taken lessons on laser technology from the likes of IBM Xerox and Canon and Ricoh, where laser technology was well implemented in laser printers.

The 500 is just filling the oppo 203 void I suspect addicted, still the 2nd moon to rise. For pioneer and all expect it to have xlrs and fill the oppo void of the 205

anyways time will tell

If you have a look at the instructions on playing hires or DSD files on there SACD player, the instructions direct you into burning the files on a disc!   No sure whether in this day and age an audiophile is going to go through that to play 24/192 or DSD5.6.

I think Pioneer has a different business model for optical disc and media players.  And yes, would love them to take the full initiative to produce something like the 205.   But at the price point that Pioneer set, the 203 is a miles better value.

@Marc any chance can pull some strings to have this special unveiling of the UDP--LX800 for the upcoming hifi show ? would be quite the coup ! and would bring some world wide coverage for the show given the very significance of what will be their top end player.

Good find kev :) replaced AKM.s with Sabre ess dacs like oppo did and incorporated a usb dac ; hopefully taking pure dsd rather than dop for those who want the purest signal ;)

Curious it doesn't mention balanced outputs as they haven't mentioned what is usually good marketing ; just rca's ?

hmmm... good find kev...

but... no XLRs ? that would leave it not really filling the oppo 205 void I wouldnt think...

so best have now is pana 9000 XLRS ...but not a universal player...

and the lx800 that seems to have high end aspirations but has left off XLRs....

I wonder how empty the internals still are ? or is it just a web page omission. a rear shot would have things cornered :D

Oh I hope the price is a mis-translation! 2298 euro, that makes my eyes bleed!

I’m hoping the missing XLR is just “lost in translation” as they do mention analogue outputs twice. Need that rear picture to confirm.

price is just over double the lx-500 ($998 euro same site) which would parallel the oppo 203/205 pricing model.

Hope we get a kind retail price and not a direct currency conversion as 998/2298 euro would be eye watering.

yep I agree we need a rear shot ! and pricing would be silly otherwise.

generally everyone ignores RRP especially wiht pioneer so wouldnt worry too much about that ! :D

But where is the analogue RCA out??! (7.1 or more)

Not needed, unless using a very old AVR.

The time may have come to accept that if you are amplifying 7.1 channels you are almost certainly using an AVR with HDMI input, and that HDMI input will be able to route the multi-channel digital signal to on-board DACs of decent quality.

[The AVR wouldn't need 4K video  passthough capability. If the AVR lacked that, you could use the  secondary HDMI output of the player.]

That's a plus as it means less circuitry and less emi/rf to deal with and is potentially redundant when playing a 7.1.4 or more object surround track B) Maybe too they have chosen to run the ESS dacs in current mode not voltage to lose a few capacitors ; making  a nice clean signal path ?

Unfortunately or vice versa ;  7.1 multi analog ins are a dying breed on the latest avr's and pre pros [ room for all those atmos channel outputs :winky: ]
