Power Consumption while nothing playing

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My wife enjoys the sound but forgets to switch off the amplifiers.

I have separates at around 3x 500W each.

They dont go on auto standby.

So i am thinking about power bill ?

What if they are all switched on for while 24 hours (no music playing) does it still consume the full power?

If yes then i must read how green power works on my Monster power board.

cheers

Without a GREAT DEAL more information, it is impossible to say how much power she is wasting.

You can buy one of those power consumption meters. Available at lots of places like bunning even. LINK

Plug it in and connect a power amp (just for testing) and see what it reads for when music is playing and without.

The one I linked too is hard to read with the small display. The bigger display ones are easier to see whats going on.

You can use a small extension cord to put device out from behind the back of the cabinet to make it easier to read.

Actew had a device they were pushing a few years ago that was a power timer it would switch off the power board and any devices connected to it not sure if they were any good or how it worked but it was aimed at exactly the situation you’re describing.

They are class AB

Trusty Rotel RB 1080 2 channel

one is running my center

other one is right and left and

third is surround.

They can draw a maximum of 550W ea it looks like.

My guess (stab in the dark) would be 20 to 40W each when idle.

Unless someone can find the specs for idle draw somewhere.

Proud to be part of such active community!

Thanks for all those replies.

I should start another one asking on how to setup the Green power option in Monster HTS1650
