LS50W for home theatre

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

would appreciate clarification if anyone knows:

Is it possible to connect the KEF LS50 wireless speakers to a home theatre setup as the front left and right speakers?  They have RCA inputs on the back and a built in amp, so I would’ve thought it possible to connect them to the front pre out from a home theatre receiver.  I’ve tried this with a Denon avr-x3400h, but no sound is produced.  Is this sensible or rather a fanciful melding of incompatible technologies?

Cheers

Hey!

when you say 'RCA inputs' on your AVR, I assume you mean to say 'RCA Pre Out'? If you use the RCA Pre Out  front left, front right to the RCA in on the active monitors you should be good. May check the gain on the pre-outs or the volume set on the active monitors. Does each input on the LS50 wireless have individual volume settings? Maybe check you AVRs setting incase the Pre Outs need to be activated.

I'm just guessing as I have no experience with each product, but I hope thats a good starting point for you :)

Cheers

One issue you may have is audio delay. The LS50W will have DSP working on the signal causing a delay. Up to you if you can live with it.

Not sure why it doesn't work for you, it will be in the settings of your AVR or the LS50W input switching.

The question is whether the input has a fixed gain option. If it doesn't, I would be very wary of connecting it up unless using it exclusively for that purpose.

All it would take is for someone to mess with the volume dial...
