The Prautes is among the best tube headphone amplifiers money can buy. It belongs in the same class as the Woo Audio WA5 and ALO Studio SIX. What's more, it's also a top of the line preamp - which would hold its own as a US$4k pure pre-amp. Check out this review: The Prautes features a pair of line outputs, so you can use it as a preamplifier. Compared to a few other things we’ve heard in this price range, the Prautes is good enough to stand its ground with any $4,000 linestage you might come across, and the headphone amp is a bonus. While you’ll probably buy it as a top of the line headphone amplifier, it’s nice to know that you can press it into service should your system requirements expand in the future. Pairing it up with power amplifiers from Pass, Simaudio and Burmester all provided highly convincing results, even using adaptors to interface with the balanced inputs on the Burmester 911 mk.3 ($32,000). Driving a system consisting of the dCS Vivaldi (reviewed in issue #63) and the Dynaudio Evidence Platinum speakers ($85,000/pair, reviewed in issue #64) the Prautes holds its own, working the same magic in my reference system as it does with a pair of headphones on. What makes the Prautes truly special is its versatility - with the ability to select a variety of impedance outputs (from 8 ohm to 300 ohm), and add BASS, this amp is designed to get the most out of your entire headphone collection... or tweak the signal as required for your speaker set up. Asking price is very reasonable given it's been fully serviced recently (Jan 2018) by Chris Kim at Kimil Electronics - now has fresh tubes and power supply, and works like new.
