For ideas on good used amps something like a 10 year old Roksan Kandy K2 is famously reviewed and was $1600-2000 rrp in its day, see the pics below, larger internal power transformer and twice the weight build quality than any of the three above though lacks the modern connections and DAC etc. Edited April 15, 2018 by Al.M
Guest Muon N'
Looking at the stereophile review of the Epos ELS-3 and measures it staying above 6ohmes for the best part, so a bit better where the impedance goes, they state minimum 4.9 but the graph looks like 4.5 to me *shrugs* Might help in picking. https://www.stereophile.com/content/epos-els-3-loudspeaker-measurements Edited April 16, 2018 by Muon N'
Mike13
What about a sub to go with your bookshelves? Could get a decent second hand one for a few hundred or less here.
nowallet
Thanks to everyone who helped me out with advice in this thread! I visited Stereophonic in Melbourne today - auditioned 4 integrated amps (Cambridge CXA60, NAD C328, Rotel A12 and Emotiva TA-100). I came away very happy with the Cambridge sound and am now typing this listening to some Floyd on it. Cheers!
