DIY JBL Clones

Recommended Posts

to get a handle on the range, do some googling but also check out the You Tube clips as you will see and get some idea of sound of the different models. It will help a lot

Joe is a JBL guru and knows what the JBL's sound like. He can help with comparative sounds and other JBL stuff you might want to know. You are onto something with JBL sound so go for it and dont let a few minor hurdles get in the way!

cheers

Alan

Yep sounds ok tony , gotta start somewhere. Do so research before doing something. And like all reviews read a bit and not too much as it will likely confuse you.

If you want to hear more high end JBL, check out this guy

He has a sweet recording setup so listening to these with decent headphones gives you a pretty good idea of what they are really like

I have built a 4pi ish speaker with a jbl 2206 and 2426 comp driver using his crossover and wave guide/horn with stunning performance.

Highly recommend Greg

They are all good, but for rock n roll the JBL 4350 are fantastic.

Here's some I built based on the 4430 design. It uses the 2234 bass driver.

Best speakers I've ever had.

The horn is made from MDF. It is made in 19mm segments, each cut to a different curve to make up the complete horn assembly. Each segment is glued & screwed together & then filed & sanded to the final curve.

You can see the complete build of these speakers here at the Lansing Heritage site.

Hey Maloo, the only ones ive heard are at the HiFi shows and Jakeybs which impressed me. But they are the more modern ones.

It looks like they are over priced for me to go the DIY root so I might look at other horn options like Diysoundgroup.

Hey @Tony ray I didn't see this thread until now. Glad you liked my speakers. They are the love of my lounge.

I'm actually building either some 4430 or 4435 speakers slowly. I say slowly as parts get hard. I'm still chasing two 15's to make the 4435 but of I can't find some soon I'll make 4430. I have some spare horns and also two active crossover units that are authentic JBL for these speakers. I'll probably go passive. If you're keen to do a project then let me know. Maybe we can help each other out. Cheers Jake
