Location: HIGH END 2018, MOC München

Any StereoNET members headed to Germany for the High End show this year?

Just got my tickets. Wasn't planning on going but some opportunities for some exclusives and other so called 'world-firsts' proved too much to resist.

We'll see you there Marc! Got our own "world first" for you too, first Aussie Speaker brand to demonstrate at HIGH END upstairs in one of the Atrium rooms!

At least I'm pretty sure we're the first ? The Atrium rooms are basically impossible to get into. Once a brand gets into one they hold onto it for life. We are lucky enough this year to partner with MSB Technology from California. Room E221.

Cheers,

Stuart

If, and when, they come back to Melbourne, bring them straight to my room.

They are the most beautiful speaker to come out of SGR in my opinion. Hope they sound good :)

Well I'm here at last, boy what a travel  marathon. At present I'm holed up in my hotel trying to catch up on sleep.  Travelled with Thai Airlines for $1200.00 which I thought was pretty good at a few days notice. Tomorrow, Friday, is the big day when they let lesser mortals like me in and I'm intending to do the full three days, sleep deprivation allowing. BTW, nearly got lost looking for a supermarket and was dead lucky to find my hotel again. Very little open today as it's a bank holiday and I think it's Fathers Day here as well but don't quote me.Regards, David.

Well, how did it go. Absolutely fabulous. The place is huge with four massive halls on the ground floor, two huge atriums on the first floor and a further huge atrium on the second floor. In the program booklet there were about 400 designated rooms and or displays with many occupied by more than one exhibitor or manufacturer. Many of the "rooms" appeared to have been installed especially for exhibitors demonstrating music systems and these rooms were basically sound proofed to the standard of a quiet music room at home. They were large rooms and I mean large as they weren't constrained by the boundaries of a hotel suite. Some of the systems were obscene prices with much of the equipment gilded to the hilt like a huge turntable and its platter, arm and stand plated in every nook and cranny with gold. I guess if you're a Sheik or lottery winner that standard of finish would be a must especially if your friends had something nearly as flashy, still I mustn't be too cynical as if I had the wherewithal I might join their ranks. So how did these uber priced systems sound? Generally they sounded pretty good but it soon became apparent that money doesn't always get the sound you might prefer and some of the more modest systems did it for me. I ran into our Marc who was running around like a blue arsed fly, camera swing from his neck and trying to get on with his job whilst fending off all his admirers and it was his birthday as well. What about the nuts and bolts of getting to and from Munich. If you fancy 23 hour plane trips broken by 3 hour stop overs then go for it. At the Munich airport I purchased train tickets from a helpful lady in a booth to get me in and out of Munich and a 5 day unlimited suburban train pass allowing me to get wherever I wanted at any time. The trains are something else, make sure you are hanging on when they take off from the station or you could be in the arms of the conductor at the rear end. Or is there anyone other than the driver, there are certainly no railway types to be seen anywhere at the stations and you fend for yourself trying to buy a ticket from the machines. And, I might as well have travelled without a ticket for all the system seemed to care. If you have a bucket list then the Munich Hi End Show needs to be on it. See how the other half lives ....:)

Well said David and great to see another familiar face in the halls. Sorry I didn't have more time to socialise, but as you rightly pointed out I had loads to do!

There really is no other show on earth as good as the High End show for our type.

The Hong Kong show in August is Asia's equivalent and very, very good. But it's not Munich.

These particular ones were really impressive (1938 from memory?).

Apparently they fetch $230,000 on the Japanese audiophile 2nd hard market!

Judging by the feedback on Computer Audiophile, most listeners were disappointed. Below is a typical opinion:

Quote

Anemic, dry and artificial sounding is a good way to put it. I liked how they could play crystal clear at very high volume but I was not impressed by the sound itself. Definitely not worth the $30k price tag, in my opinion.

Also some reports on poor imaging...

Hard to believe without listening myself, as this definitely does not gel with what the Kii Three themselves do.

I myself am looking forward to hearing the Kii Three BTX setup. I have to admit, reading and hearing impressions of Kii Three speakers from experienced audiophiles throw up as polarising a set of opinions as I've come across in this hobby.  Further reinforcing the need to listen to these speakers for our selves.

I’m keen to hear the full BTX setup too.

The Kii3s on their own are one of the most amazing systems I’ve heard (note that they are a system rather than a speaker).

Totally agree. I thought the Kii Three BXT's would have received some of the greatest comments from Munich, being a standout. Comments to date have not been what i expected. I am interested to hear myself.

Part of me wishes that these opinions are correct: if the BTX performed as well as the Kii Three, I'd find it really hard to resist...

I'm hoping the local distributors ( @sonic_purity ) will arrange some demo sessions once the BTX are locally available. Their listening room is much more representative of actual performance than the show conditions.
