shogun2
I'm not ANTI for you reasons described above. I happen to work in the industry, and I am finding that whilst one or two of our clients may be asking for the technology, they don't yet have a reason because they have no product to play over it. It has nothing to do with obsolescence and loss of value. There is also a big difference between "experts" who knock a product for political reasons, and the current industry talk I hear around the traps. Will be checking out demos from Panasonic, Samsung, JVC and Projection Design and others tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think.
shogun2
The Denon product manager just told me that there is a new surround system out with 9.1 surround - to provide vertical imaging at the front ..... the other thing that annoys me about all things HT is how quickly things change. Its like purchasing a computer but at a much higher cost.blu ray vs hd dvd hdmi, what are we up to now...... 1.4 are they next going to hit us with more new surround formats its a bloody mine field, no wonder poor old Joe blow is sick of it and gets taken for a ride by retailers. 2 channel is ust soooo much easier purchase a system and it last you a lifetime with no need to upgrade till it dies or there is money burning a whole in your pocket. Not because you are forced to do so

metal beat
I have never been a fan of 3d movies and most of them I have seen at the movies are more a distraction than adding to the movie. I think the absolute crap glasses the movie theatre give do not help at all. Anyway, my new Sony TV also has 3D. I picked a Panny pvr cheap during the week so thought, why not hire a couple 3d blu ray movies. comfortacomes with 2 active 3d glasses and they are a lot more comfortable than the throwaway passive ones. I have seen GI Joe and Everest so far. I am quite impressed, a lot more than I thought I would be. I have Gravity and Dawn of the planet of the Apes to watch over the next few days. That will probably do me for the next few months So far pretty impressed with Active 3d. Anyone else watch 3d movies? Guest Sime
I've got about 60 titles, used to love it a lot on my previous passive tv, but not so much on my current active one. I still buy them if a movie is released, for future possibilities. Best 3D movie to watch, Tron Legacy, both audio and video. betty boop
such an old thread. 3D has come a long way in the last 6 years ! that said with 3D even 5-6 years ago there were some good bits of hardware to do justice and some good material. the epson 9000w I hd back in the day was very good for 3D in a projector. and the hardware concerned matters a lot I think....for 3D you need a large scale experience in my opinion to really appreciate....when you have a room filling experience things go to another level. its related to immersion again I think. I've setup to thx spec with regards to immersion and it works. the best illustration of this is my daughter running around the room trying to catch the fish in the imax undersea series. on smaller displays this is harder to re create. additionally in capability there is much difference in display and projector technology...eg what you see in commercial theatres is a very poor representation...dim and relying on passive tech is a very poor cousin. what can achieve in the home on a projector setup is miles ahead. if want to see the cutting edge check out the imax twin laser setups.... we are very lucky to have one of these in melbourne...one of very few in the world. even with home projectors there are variations ...eg the epson I had was about as good as it got unless going for a top end DLP setup...my jvc that followed was a step behind and current jvc a step ahead of the previous epson. so depending what you have can determine the quality of end result. there seems to be two types of 3D material ones that go with some pop out... for effect....some will find these gimmicky.... there is the other sort that gives a level of depth both inside and out of the screen...this I compare to the depth of good stereo system it makes it a whole room experience. makes more real. watching movies like finding nemo, art of flight are stunning in 3D. to the point I cant imagine watching any other way. some movies I believe re made to be watched in 3D the last movie I watched in 3D ...everest...I have a sense of aversion to heights...and watching this movie in 3D recreates that feel very well.. you really get the feel of depth of chasms. the distance across the peaks. its all about the sense of realism...and 3D can recreate that very effectively ...but it is a combination of hardware and software I feel to recreate this...so can totally understand people being underwhelmed depending on what they have had to experience to come to that conclusion

Satanica
Not for me.
