If you are running the Gross directly into a power amp the preamp may help a little but not always.

Does the Gross have a pre amp in it?

I handed the loan unit over to DavinB yesterday for his ‘home alone with DAC’ experience this weekend (I was tempted to invite myself around and offer to take a few beers, but thought that might be a

Hi Guys, well the three input Gross DAC demo unit should arrive at Joz’s place (Melbourne) in a few days. Anyone interested in trying it needs to register via email (not PM) with me at

Clay,   just a suggestion.   maybe let @joz have it longer as there are many members here who have been down at his place and are familiar with the SQ of his rig.  It's up to joe o

No - but it will drive most power amps directly very nicely.

A simple setup like that gives a clean neutral sound. It is only if the power amp has a particularly low input impedance ( <20K ) that it struggles.

It does has a volume control, just make sure you have it turned down to start with.

Finally got it working :)

Is there a way to use this with room correction on still? Direct doesn’t sound as good because I lose all the bass. I’ve got it going from Gross to pre/pro to amps.

I worked out why. When I put it on Direct, the subs don’t do anything. Can anyone suggest why?

........

Okay I’ve come to a realisation that with subs is too much bass for modern songs (Radiohead, depeche mode) and better for old songs (70s Bowie).

If using direct it will only feed as many channels as are input.

eg 2 in / 2 out, won't get 2.1

Hmm. Meant to post this last night sorry but it’s still here...

Alright... after realising without subs being integrated properly the sound is better, for most songs, in Direct.

I then did some a/b with Bluesound Node 2 in Direct mode.

Both good but with the Gross I think the vocals sound better and I do feel drawn into the song more. Songs a/b’d were Melody Gardot, Our love is easy, Johny Cash, Hurt (I know...), Joan As a Police Woman, Real Life. This says a lot coming from  me because normally I can’t tell the difference between a lot of things I’ve tried hifi-wise.

Ok, I’ve had a nice week with the Groß loan unit.  I don’t want to hold up anyone else’s enjoyment, so who’s next @Gieseler Audio?

Home to papa, I think!

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry but the demo Gross will no longer be doing the rounds.

I had a few issues shipping it around & ended up selling it to one of the  Melbourne participants.

Sorry but It was quite a lot of mucking around with shipping tracking etc

The alternative  I came up with would to purchase one with the option to return it for a full refund after seven days if you were not happy with it.

You would just be up for the return freight if it was sent back.

Note! All  Driver Licence images have been deleted.

Kind Regards

That is more than fair - a week to make up your mind is a great option.
