SOLD: FS: Early NAD 300 Stereo Receiver

Recommended Posts

Item: NAD 300 Stereo Receiver
Location: Brunswick East
Price: 850
Item Condition: 9/10: the unit has been incredibly well cared for, and restored last year.
Reason for selling: Moving to a more expensive pre/power combo for my JBL's.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info:

Quite a rare, top-of-the-line NAD receiver from their first production line in 1975 (manufactured until 1978).
A pretty incredible piece of audio equipment. In my opinion in testing proved superior sonically to similar rated receivers of that period. Tested it against both a Marantz 2275, and Pioneer SX-850 (both were restored units), and the NAD 300 sounded more dynamic, had a better low-end and overall clearer sound.
Rated at 85WPC, but my technician tested it close to 100WPC.

Cosmetically:
Beautiful original condition, very few signs of use, extremely well cared for.
Metal external cover has been professional repainted.

Mechanically:
This receiver has had a full restoration. The unit was purchased personally from Carl over at Tivoli Hi-Fi, in 2017. Carl being their retired turntable specialist, with over 40 years experience in servicing audio equipment.
I'd estimate $200-300 worth of servicing work has been undertaken.

- All the degrading capacitors have been replaced with high quality modern components. All the replacements chosen were carefully selected for optimal sonic performance.
- Radio FM/AM updated to allow the use of modern TV input, taking advantage of home TV antenna input for vastly superior coverage.
- All switches and controls have been de-oxidised, and recoated with contact conditioner. So everything operates smoothly and quietly.
*NOTE* Once powered up, for 3-4 seconds if the volume knob is altered there is some static heard, but it then disappears and works flawlessly forever onwards. The issue was too minor to ever spend money/time investing, just being as transparent as possible in my post.
- Modern banana-plug speaker connections installed.
- Idle current and offset calibrated to spec.
- All new LEDs indicator lights.

The chassis all solid metal and aluminium, well built and weighs 22kg.
Pickup from Brunswick East, or freight can be considered.

I've sought an expert opinion and reconsidered postage, the item can be double boxed and shipped with quality materials for $40 to Sydney via E-Go.

Item: Yamaha 3040 Aventage Receiver (black)
      Location: Perth
      Price: $1000
      Item Condition: Excellent
Reason for selling: Upgrading to 9.2.4
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
      Extra Info:

Bought this receiver when it first came out to get into ATMOS (7.2.4). Has not disappointed.

Some of the features I’ve particularly found particularly useful:
Can re-assign amp channels to outputs (i.e. if you want to use external power amp for fronts, can re-direct the atmos channels to be powered by the receiver) PEQ. I’m not sure why all receivers don’t have this. Allows for manual tweaking post calibration. Bass adjustment. This does not just lift the subwoofer output, but it will also increase the midbass ouput (i.e. to the front speakers) to maintain a even smooth transition i.e. you can easily create a JBL style reference curve
I have the box, so can ship if necessary. But will give preference to local buyers.

This receiver has made me a Yamaha fan for life.

The only reason I’m moving to a Denon is that it currently is the cheapest option to get me into 9.2.4.
