Ian McP
great Oz collaboration from 2016 https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/oct/13/xylouris-white-black-peak-album-review-lute-rough-trade Xylouris White are an unlikely duo. George Xylouris is a distinguished exponent of the Cretan lute, while Jim White is an Australian drummer, best known for his work with the instrumental rock band Dirty Three. Two years on from their debut album, Goats, comes this follow-up, in which they further develop their inventive and often thrilling fusion style by concentrating on songs rather than instrumentals. But the emphasis is on improvisation rather than predictable structures; so on the exhilarating title track, Xylouris mixes Cretan influences with pounding rock riffs, with his powerful baritone voice at times backed only by White’s inventive percussion. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/jan/16/xylouris-white-review-sydney-festival-2105 < It sounds like the first half of a joke: what happened when a famed Greek lute player met a post-rock drummer from Melbourne? But the answer is Xylouris White, a musical collaboration between lutenist George Xylouris and former Dirty Three bandmember, Jim White. Xylouris hails from the Greek island of Crete, is son to famed singer and lyra player Psarantonis, and spent eight years in Melbourne. White’s musical associations are no less impressive: recalling first seeing him play, PJ Harvey was “completely mesmerised by his fluidity ... he was like a voice, or a dancer, or a painter.” >

swervyn
For me, my fav album would be based on what influence it had on me in that time of my life. Anything from the 80's, Australian pub rock stuff was a huge part of my life. And across different genres too, hard to put a #1 out there. Production/remastering etc aside. Men at Work-Business as usual MattFinish-Short Note Anything by the Oils Anything by the Angels Anything by ACDC East Sirocco INXS Went and saw Billy Field in concert once...... adamg
Not calling it the 'best ever' but Radio Birdman - Radios Appear is a stand out Australian rock album. I can't imagine my youth without it, and still play it often. Recorded 1976-77 at Trafalgar Studios - Sydney. According to Wiki ..... 'Radios Appear was listed at #3 among the "Top 50 Australian Albums of All Time" as compiled by Melbourne newspaper The Age in 2008.[2] In October 2010, it was ranked No. 13 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums. 3

LRB is not everyone's cup but this is my favourite. I love both MO and LRB but if I had to choose between seeing one of both live, it would be Midnight Oil every time.....that might also be because I have not yet had this pleasure. I did see LRB live at a 'Stoned Again' gig in Melbourne in '76, through a haze of dope smoke. That was a blast!

OK, objectively not very good but at the time it hit the spot. The actual song 'Mug's Game' from this album is a beauty! What a jam and Dave's lyrics and stories are brilliant. OK, some of the lyrics from some of the other songs wouldn't pass the PC test these days but what a great concert. I have 'Free Kicks' from DWFTS as well.
