Not sure I would want a pair of speakers held together by glue...

But trust Mr 125...he is a smart guy...so will see how this pans out...

I've been a cabinetmaker for over 35 years, I know my schit.

@peter_f

Is just weird, could have used 2 kg of screws easily, but no need

used about 6  screws n total.

particularly 2 x 600 liter enclosures, 6 screws

have a few left over

It wouldn't hurt using that many screws but essentially its a waste of time and money as long as you have sufficient pressure on the joint while it cures.

The trick with MDF is to use less screws if possible as the core has very little structural integrity as it splits and bulges very easily.  Also, lightly sand the the face of the MDF butting up against the edge of the other piece to remove the waxy/smooth surface and allow the adhesive to penetrate and bond properly to both surfaces.

Notes

SQ

600 litres of enclosure "does things to reinforce low bass below 40hz at less than 1 watt at 90dB" is better than say, 300 litres

Should implement some dsp filter might sound better

That's what I'm scared of !!  :0 hi tech stuff, but it works better

Time to make a bit of an effort at getting both of these Twins going today

Going to make an attempt at getting the things up some stairs and into my sound lounge. Pull out the drivers first, makes things easier.

Grills can be done in a clean area.

:thumb: Cheers, was nice to catch up today on the phone

Great to catch up with you as well mate. Very interesting and informative talk we had. Your dog will get sucked into the depths of that enclosure if you wound it up. Never to be seen again.

Looking good! Wondering what you are going to use for grille material to keep the boppers from punching their heads through the drivers?

Quite right as @Peter_F says, fixings (or clamps) are only there to hold the panels together until the adhesive dries, also helps to stop joints sliding around when gluing them up.
Done properly the joint is stronger than the timber it is clamping. The whole box is made of plywood which is layers of ply held together with.....glue!

G'day

Idea is to glue up a pine frame (no screws !!!)

Not exactly sure how to keep those who mysteriously want to smash their head into the front of the box from getting to the cones. Drink less alcohol would be the first suggestion

Other wise either gate mesh or trench mesh.

quite like the idea of trench mesh as it will "bite back" to varying degree and can be built into the grill more easily/securely

Will be fairly solid to be sure, not wanting to have to re cone a 21" driver for a while if at all.

Grill material is meant to be some sort of thick double layer stuff for bass cabs so hoping it's fairly tough oh it's own

Hi Matt, I've found Weldmesh very useful, and the 50 x 50 x 3 mm (wire diameter) one might be useful for your purpose. The one I've had access to is lightly galvanized and about $45 a sheet (8 x 4 ft). Should keep all but the most ardent headbanger out.

It might be more effective with a slight pre-stress, as in a convex curve put into it, to stop both it, and the grill cloth, from flapping in sympathy (groove along) with the music. In which case, you might need 1 or 2 lateral tension wires to stop the grill frames bowing out in the middle.

Just a thought.

Now what might be all those interesting boxes you're wiring up?

@BioBrian

(more importantly have the speakers operational)

Twins in stereo, sounds well.

Yes the weld mesh will be good

Will listen to these for a while tonight and glue the baffle frame on 1 of them.

Those dirty things (grills) need to be separate-a-bull for real listening, don't they?!?

Bring on the Holtons

As you would imagine, 0.1mm excursion from 4 x 21" cones is plenty,  all about the first watt

Is a bit special, very pleased

Very exciting for me too, Matt, and probably lots of others here.

'Dirty' was referring to grills in general. Nothing to do with your design!

Very fulfilling to see this project all coming together. Hope the masses appreciate it (ha ha). After the event may be the real fruition time.

Keep looking after your self!

Thanks Brian, yes has been almost a month to the day the battery saw was run.

I think those that like clean bass from 25 to 250hz would enjoy these, which would be most folk.

Great looking build there monster love the finish.

I thought it was my neighbours with the music up loud last night!

You could almost call them MONSTROUS!

Thanks Mate, yes monstrous is a word that could be used for Twin 21"600 litre bass reflex enclosures

Finish looks way better in the flesh and has gone very well, now to keep going and build some riot and all weather protection for them
