daedalus
Hi, I have a Pioneer VSX-517. I would like to connect a power amp to it and use the Pioneer as a processor as I have sources connected to it via optical SPDIF. I have read that I would need a "pre-out". My pioneer has audio left out and audio right out (see page 2 of http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3424/424500909VSX-517-K(-S).pdf) Do I connect that to the Audio left in and Audio left in of the power amp? This seems to be the case for say Cambridge Audio according to their instructions http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/assets/documents/AP208461Azur740ACQuickStartGuide.pdf Thanks! Grumpy
Unfortunately by the looks of your Pioneer you don't have pre-outs to connect extra power amps. Might be time to upgrade if you want better sound from 2 channels or more power from a power amp.

Grumpy
I can't see any audio outs in the pic on page 2 except for the Sub woofer Edited August 9, 2010 by Grumpy
daedalus
I can't see any audio outs in the pic on page 2 except for the Sub woofer on page 2 with the pic of the rear of the receiver, goto the top left of the receiver. To the right of the Optical In port under the "DVR/VCR" section there are 2 RCA ports labelled "OUT". Similarly, on the bottom left to the right of the lowest COAX input there are also 2 RCA ports labelled "OUT". are those "pre outs"?
Benje
they may be 'post outs'. They may be suitable to feed an amplifier. I wouldn't know. Benje
cmcook
I would think they are not volume controlled.
Jake
The lower ones are tape outs, and would definitely be fixed volume, I'm not sure about the other ones.
little blue penguin
Both sets are fixed level outputs intended for devices that can record external sources. These are unsuitable to connect to an external amp. There are no pre-outs on this amp.
