Home theatre rookie Posted November 24, 2017 Share Posted November 24, 2017 Just putting it out there...... Im about to pull the trigger on a avr plus amp. Totale cost will be ~ $3100. (Will display my choice after options ( if any are given)). Without giving away details, at this price point, can i do better for a lattest tech 7.2.4 system? Gremrock Posted January 14, 2018 Share Posted January 14, 2018 (edited) Not sure if you've bought something yet, but depending on your requirements with source, you could go any of the new oppos (i think even the new103 had a HDMI input put for about $700) and a nice 7ch power amp. This'll give you networking, disc/usb playback, an input for digital use and basic EQ/room setup ability, and likely better output than any AVR you'll buy for that price + a 2ch amp Edit I should mention I switched to running an old BDP93+nuforce 7ch amp from a $2k odd marantz AVR and much much preferred the oppo setup, I ultimately went back to 2ch for the main setup though so its back to the avr just for tv.
