refurbed AVRs - why so many and any good?

Recommended Posts

Often, buying a refurb is better than buying new.

A refurb is usually something returned from the retailer with a fault. That fault is fixed and the receiver checked out by hand (or at least instrument).

New units just get sent out without checking.

You get less warranty, but often the thing you need warranty for (HDMI boards on Onkyo) have been fixed.

Some refurbed amps I've had:

Onkyo TXNR676E- $800

Yamaha A-S1100 - $1100

Yamaha A-S3000 - $3000  *** this is a $10000 amp.

Yamaha RX-A3060 - $1600

all worked flawlessly and came fully packed like new.

If you'd like to pay retail then that's an uninformed choice IMO.

As said some get returned if a box is damp or if the owner had it for a few days and didn't like it. Or if they have known issues then as posted above they fix them first so problems are solved before they happen.

Exactly, in fact Integra give you 12 months warranty, on a product that could be 6-7 years old already that's incredible.

I have purchased 1 refurb Yamaha A2000 and have lost count of the Integra's probably 5 and have had no issues at all.
