pdcoo7
Item: Onix OA 22 integrated amp. Location: Mosman RFS: too many amps Price: 700 Payment: COD, PayPal +3% or as friend, Direct Deposit Other information: Clearing out my cupboard the other day, I discovered, just below my collection of hen’s teeth, another rarity In the form of a 90’s ,minimalist design class AB classic British Amplifier. Unashamedly mimicking another modern Audiophile Classic the Naim Nait 2, you won’t be surprised to learn that it doesn’t just look like a Naim, inside and out, but sound wise manages to sparkle in the same way, with a beautifully balanced and highly musical signature. It holds it own very convincingly! It is in 9/10 condition, original in every way including the packaging box so I’m willing to post interstate at buyers expense. pdcoo7
I have mentioned elsewhere that in some ways the Onix did two things better that the Naim Nait 2.Firstly, there is no balance control on the Onix which is almost universally agreed that it compromises the SQ on the Nait to some extent and secondly, the volume pot on the Nait is another weak point that often gives up a lot of gain at the very low end, whereas, the Onix delivers a more evenly spread gain over the travel of the knob.I found the sweet spot for ordinary level listening to be comfortable around 12:00 o’clock with the Onyx and perhaps beginning to sound a tad strained on the Nait in the same position. Gordon Macfarlane
Lovely sweet sounding amp but with balls too. A great competitor to the Cyrus 2 of the time with a more relaxing sound , great with brighter or forward sounding speakers.
