Yamaha RX-V3900 Firmware error

Recommended Posts

After years of not bothering about firmware updates, I decided to check it out, it seems the latest update is 1.23 for the RX-V3900.

I followed the instructions to check on my current version, but it just comes up with "version error"

Anyone know what this means?

the last thing I want to do is turn this thing into a brick by some f/w update it maybe doesn't need.

I fixed it, I found a Yamaha trouble shooting guide, it said to just run through the f/w update again, so I did, and now it works fine.

hmm dangerous imo.. if it bricks it good luck with any yammy help. why take the risk? if it is working .

any fw should be onto a usb stick and not direct into the unit to help reduce risk of bricking.

my 2008 and 2011 denons have fw updates but no way would i bother.. but hey as long as it worked for you my rant was pointless. :-)

My main reason for wanting to update f/w was the latest was listed as "better media streaming connectivity" and I want to see if I can stream spotify to the amp, so far it's all been a waste of time, I need to find a media server that allows streaming of anything being played directly from my pc... not such an easy task from what I can see.

Why is a bit scary updating such an old piece of magnificent equipment.  I have had one of these amps for about 7 or 8 years.  It would still out perform most of the rubbish on the market today.

Do what you want mate. Enjoy it. I'm only saying that in regards to being involved in repairing this stuff.

Mate don't be scared of "bricking" the amp. Fw update is a piss of piss. I updated my Z7 last week.

I firmware update everything.

I think I might as well get the best I can from the equipment that I buy.
