diesel
What standard (not tilt) wall mount would you guys recommend for the 65"Panny?.Looks like an expansion opportunity in the marketplace for EzyHD I'd Be very supprised (And Pissed off lol) if they get cheaper than what you and I got ours for Most certainly will get cheaper, just depends how long people are willing to wait. I'd be interested in them releasing the 65" S series here, but maybe with little competition in this size range they don't see the point in releasing this model in Aust. Be nice to know when the next batch arrives from anyone in the know, hopefully by the time I return from vacation.
sibuna
Nearly double ?!? I 've owned the 65v10a and I 've seen the 46" bravia. The visual feelingis like looking at a truck and a 1.3L hyundai Faz, For another 6 months, this TV price will be 20% cheaper. For another 2 years, it is worthless. As long as you enjoy with what you paid for that is good enough. Thinking about others that have paid and still waiting for the unit will make you feel better. Thinking about others that bought the previous model or the Kuro for 8K+ even make you feel better. So the point is: don't look up, look down to live in happiness. Nice visual there with the cars Heading to Myer Melb Friday to suss out supposed New Year shipments of 65V10's. Building a new place right now and hopefully get to move in next month so late Jan/Feb delivery no prob. If I can get near the $4700odd someone mention earlier I'd probably jump at it
hien
Rubbish, give it a month and you will hanker for the 85".I have been living with a 70” for 3 years viewing from 3 meters and it’s not quite big enough for 16:9 content, for the wide aspect ratio movies it’s definitely inadequate. Now, that 's really rubbish, Owen. I sit and watched a 50" at 2m distance for 10 min in HN. The shop is quite large and bright. When I stood up, it felt like walking out to a bright day light from a dark cinema. And you said that you have watched a 70" from 3m for 3 years ???! diesel
I'd have to agree with Owen. I got a 50" three years ago, viewed from ~3m. After a week, we were used to it and for the past 2.5 years I've been hankering for a 58". Now with the price of the 65" so low, I'm keen to jump to the 65" and forget the 58"

The 65 felt huge for about 1 day. Now it just feels normal. My viewing distance is about 2.5-3.0m (depending on if the seat is reclined or not), occasionally when watching a movie i will grab a bean bag and sit 1.9-2.0m away just to get more of a movie feel. If money was no object I could easily see me wanting the 85" panel.

I went from a 48cm to a 68cm and said wow for a week, then it was plain. Then I went from 68cm to an 86cm widescreen HD CRT - the first month was amazing and 2 years later it was tiny, absolutely tiny. I then went to a 50" plasma and while even after a year it's still quite bloody good, I really want about 60% of my vision filled, like the cinema (or close to it) - I'd consider a 65" if they broke the 4.5k$ mark (Yes I do have bad eyesight and yes, I sit only 7' from my TV)

Now at ~2.6m i'm loving it, though an 80" at this distance would provide the ultimate movie watching experience. 58" will do for now. I stuck to my budget & got a deal I was happy with & now the setup is more suitable for this size screen so all good. (Owen is right btw).
geese
my 65v10 arrived today, bloody hell this thing is huge. Perfect size for my theatre room anything bigger is just too big. Caught a bit of NFL on one hd and the picture is STUNNING. This is the TV to own, size > everything! Great news. What day did you purchase it? I guess the 50" setup is left at default, that is standard procedure for shop display anyway, eg unpack, move to display stand, plug it in and turn it on. I 'm viewing my 65" at a 5m distance and I 'm quite happy with it. It seems that most people in this forum has no problem in viewing large screen within 3m. Then it must be something wrong with my eyes. I 'll be comfortable with 50" at 2.5m, 65" at 4m or greater.
50mxe20
Seems to me there are two sides to this size issue. Plenty of people are running PJ's and sitting 3-metres from 110+ inch screens. This make 65 inches seem small. On the other hand I have experienced motion sickness from sitting to close to large displays and I'll bet I am not the only one. I suspect one can get used to this and overcome it but really ..... Everyone's needs and vision are different. I don't think it is fair to categorize viewing distances and screen size. There are no hard and fast rules, only guidelines. Everyone is different. End rant.

Owen
At 3 meters a normal human cant see 1080 resolution on a 65” screen and your viewing angle will be like the back row of the cinema, hardly huge by any standard. At 4 meters you are not even in the cinema.

I suspect one can get used to this and overcome it but really ..... I suffered this on 24 on the Pana 50" because of the overuse of "live" TV angles where the camera movement is fast, jerky and almost vouyeristic. This was the only show that made me feel this way...and no, it wasn't the content, though I never watched it again after that series
sibuna
Went to Myer today to see if I could be tempted by the 65V10. Bad time to buy when they're having a 1 day 20% off TV sale. They were selling heaps of other Tv's they couldn't be bothered taking much more off the price. Will wait till Jan to order I guess when no one is in store...*sigh On the viewing distance discussion, I thought the ideal position is about 2.5 times the size of screen? I find when you're viewing too close you start seeing pixels and the picture is not as sharp.
scottylans
Depends on your eye quality, I sit 7' from a 50" plasma and I still can't read some text on it in modern games (small fonts) :/ It's all about what you're comfortable seeing in your viewing plane (?) - I want to see a pretty big picture consuming a lot of my visual real estate - like the movies. Why pay 2.5k to pretend you're sitting at the back of the theatre when for another 2k you can be sitting at the front!
nick_crx
Great news. What day did you purchase it? around mid november. Now that you mention it guys i am already used to the size and when i see my old set (pioneer 42") i dont know how i ever managed to watch tv on a screen that small. hpotter
With my old eyes the closer the better Lyle! I view my 30inch PC monitor from around 2ft away. Around 25% of the screen on either side is in my peripheral vision and out of focus until I turn my eyes or head. Not tiring at all. In fact it is just like viewing objects in the real world. CCRider
At 3 meters a normal human cant see 1080 resolution on a 65” screen and your viewing angle will be like the back row of the cinema, hardly huge by any standard. At 4 meters you are not even in the cinema. That is an interesting fact. So people who sit as far as 5m from the screen what size telly would give the same experience as sitting 3m from a 65? I recall a conversation with a forum member when I purchased my 58v10. I told him that I should hold of and get the 65. His reply was "Just sit closer to the screen and save yourself $2k. So Owen how close do I have to be from a 58" tv to get the same effect as sitting 3m from a 65 inch? Edited December 18, 2009 by CC Rider
Eth Nick
So Owen how close do I have to be from a 58" tv to get the same effect as sitting 3m from a 65 inch? Hey, CC. While you await a more informed response, you can read my rabble. ;] ...I remember someone (maybe Owen) posting a simple guide (using your hand widths) to see roughly how far you'd need to be from your screen (no matter what size) to be in an equivalently decent position in a movie theatre (roughly mid-section). It went like this; When in your seating position, with your arms out stretched in front of you & your palms facing the screen (fingers pointed to the roof), four hand widths should measure from left to right of your screen. Now, for the screen height, turn your hands sideways. & two hand widths should measure from the top of the screen to the bottom. It's not the most accurate way of measuring things, but it's a pretty good guide, as it backs up my situation, where i'm currently sitting @ 3 hand widths wide & 1.3 hand widths high. This is @ 2.6m for a 58" screen. If I move forward to the THX recommended distance (2m) & then measure with my hands, it's spot on 4 widths wide & 2 widths high.
