muiredachau
I remember when my parents had the rating boxes you only had to be in the room to be on the list
alanh
That box contained a microphone and which would be sampled by the survey company computer and the waveform compared to all the TV station outputs. If one was identical then it was recorded as a viewer. The box had no idea how many viewers there were and if they were asleep! Alanh
muiredachau
The Box asked for the viewers in the room as an input of A(1st person), B(2nd person) and guests (anyone not Living at the house)
alanh
muirecachau, It is up to the viewer to be honest and accurate, just like it was with the diary system. The new boxes at lease is accurate with regard to what channel (FTA or and pay) is being displayed. It cannot tell if the viewer has gone to sleep during the program! We are yet to get a perfect system, particularly because of privacy issues. Alanh

What would this "perfect system" be? Please elaborate on privacy issues... wouldn't any new system simply be an opt in/out situation?
