And judging from my 105 experience it won't be the last FW...

There is still FW that's been release for the 105 this year 4 yrs since I've had the 105

This can be viewed two ways, obviously you can say it has so many problems that it needs constant updating, or alternately they support their product long after many others have moved onto the next model. I have bought cheap players in the distant past to play divx etc, but they often stopped supporting the firmware shortly after you bought it, so you were stuck with whatever bugs it had. Yes they should be testing better, but I kind of like they continue to support the old machines. Need to check my FW version if they realease a new 105 FW in Feb.

Updated to current firmware. Did it for the first time through the "Network" option, must say that was quick and easy.

Edit:

DON'T DO THE UPDATE to 10XAU-83-1226

I did the update and it took forever to try look for movies in my pre existing folders (still not showing Volume_4). After waiting for ages to find files I turned the player off (typical 105 fix) and now when I press Network I am not presented with the usual Music, Video, Photos option, it goes straight to my NAS \ Videos \ Folders \ Volume_2 with no way to escape out of that window. Even pressing home doesn't help. Going to need to try reload the previous firmware, although once it is official I don't think they let you revert to a previous version.

Oppo told me there are no plans to change this GUI, so I think this will be my last Oppo regardless of how good the hardware is unless someone writes a custom software for it.

Edit 2:

Unplugged the network cable to force it not to see the network and restarted. Replugged it back in and it's working again (with the usual lock ups) but now it is seeing Volume_4 and all the files in the folders. Don't know what happened but I think the player had a brain fart.

The first issue I've found upon starting my new 203 already, hasn't been discussed here yet. As I already have a running Oppo 105 and I didn't want to have one remote firing up two Oppo's I set the 203's remote to use code 2 in the remote's battery compatment, but the 203 doesn't respond at all to those codes, so I set it to code 3 instead, yes it sort of worked, now I can still fire up two Oppo's sucessfully even if I don't want too. Maybe I'll try changing the 105 to another code and see if that works instead. Al has already posted about the stuttering during playback of Deep Sea Horizon's 4k disc, so won't add to that one.

@agelessgoodguy

its in the 105 and I'm sure it's in the 203.

If you change the code code in the remote, you also have to change the selection in the settings under device setup.

this is an iPad app for the 105, notice the selection for the remote control:

I noticed in response to below, posted on avs from arrow av, its something I noticed with the oppo when I was running in auto and with a section of life of pi,

- What settings did you change exactly in the Oppo? I would love if the banding was a simple fix and will give this a shot.

"Within the Video Output Setup menu, change COLOR SPACE to YCbCr 4:4:4 and the COLOR DEPTH to 12-BIT, instead of the factory default which is AUTO. This 100% cured the posterization experienced in all instances

We believe this was/is due to a bug with respect to the OPPO 203"

Ok I checked the FW and was informed by my 203 that it indeed had the latest FW installed so drew a blank on that one, as for the remote setting mine reports that the remote code is identical to that set in the remote so that page shown above automatically changes as one changes the switch in the battery compartment of the remote. No luck there either.

hi ageless cant help re the remote code as never needed to do myself, re firmware, just follow the link in my post above, reposted below

all instructions needed are there on how to do. its simply matter odd loading onto a usb stick plugging into the player and following instructions that are also on the page ... or refer to the manual if want more on how to do firmware updates off a usb stick.

be worth doing the update with the beta as quite likely might fix some of the issues having. well have to give them the best chance :)

Blu-ray-UDP-205.png

also this note that clarifies a bit more on release date,

"...i just called OPPO to find out when they will be accepting orders for the 205 and the response was mid April...so...one never knows when the actual date will be unless you've signed up for notification via your email and/or checking the OPPO web site often..."

and the note below, thats indicative of pricing,

"Gents- I wanted to share the latest and greatest I was fortunate to receive from Oppo this morning.

Yaphet,

The UDP-205 will likely be released by the end of April and will retail between $1299 and $1399 when it is released. It will have the latest ESS ES9038Pro DACs and have digital coaxial, optical and Asynchronous USB DAC inputs, a headphone amplifier, multi-channel analog and dedicated stereo analog outputs, stereo XLR output and a single HDMI input for audio and video.

@al

If that is all the stuff the 205 will do it is going to be a fantastic machine.

(and then I would hopefully pick up a 105 for a reasonable price :) )

hi jventer, yes can imagine the 105 is going to be astounding buying, already people seem to have them surfacing at what is likely half the pricer the 205 likely go for. so no doubt be some good options am sure very reasonably priced :)

i just wonder if oppo indeed will bring back the media player capabilities of the oppo with the 205 as that is probably something very lacking versus the previous 105 version.

Extra Details below and from the Loewe website: https://ww2.loewe.tv/au/bild/loewe-reference

Loewe is acknowledged as a specialist manufacturer and this is their top television model, the Reference, in a 55” size model. It is hand made in Germany with features that are not found on standard sets.

      Effortless Perfection.
The new Loewe Reference sets exceptionally high standards. An achievement made possible by a perfectly synchronised performance: A crystal-clear Ultra-HD picture combines with outstanding quality sound from Loewe's unique integrated soundbar. A timeless modernist design meets ultimate convenience, thanks to the integrated hard disk recorder and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Ultra High Definition ... for the best picture.
The UHD display is combined with Loewe's unique glass high contrast filter panel, delivering even richer colours and deeper blacks - for a truly special picture. For TV broadcast signals that do not yet meet the UHD standard Loewe's up-scaling algorithm converts from the currently available Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a seamless process ensuring visibly enhanced details and the clarity of Ultra HD 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.

Loewe 3D Active Shutter ... for even more depth.
From outer space to jungles or oceans … Sometimes, you want to truly immerse yourself in the action unfolding on your screen. Loewe's 3D Active Shutter technology brings images alive with vibrant detail - and not just for 3D content. Algorithms work invisibly behind the scenes - calculating which picture content should appear at the front and back - to transform even 2D content into an impressive three-dimensional home cinema experience.

High-resolution art ... with the LUMAS app.
The new LUMAS Gallery app takes art into the digital dimension - and opens up new horizons. It allows you to enjoy selected works of art by internationally renowned artists - such as the Cuba series by the Stuttgart-based photographer Werner Pawlok - in high-resolution Ultra HD quality on your television screen. The LUMAS TV app is available on the new Loewe Reference TV home screen, so you can start selecting pictures straight away - using the Loewe remote control. Browse photographs, graphics, illustrations, digital art or paintings. When you find a picture that appeals, you can display it as a fixed image (for a maximum of 24 hours) or enjoy as part of a slide show.

      Quality Sound
The Loewe Reference has a sound quality to rival even high-end hi-fi and home cinema systems: tangible bass, vivid middle, precise highs and an exceptionally wide dynamic range – the traditional hallmarks of Loewe Sound. The Loewe Reference sets particularly high standards. An integrated soundbar with eight speakers generates crystal-clear sound with a rich 120 watts of music output. In combination with the specially designed bass reflex box and integrated 5.1 audio decoder with Dolby Digital and DTS, the result is an impressive home cinema … and a perfect home concert hall. The Loewe Reference's cinema surround mode conveys amazingly authentic surround sound. At the touch of a button, it also allows you to switch between film and music mode. Special algorithms calculate the optimal overall sound setup for each situation: as powerful as possible while retaining sensitivity – ideal for cinema buffs and music fans.

Loewe Mobile Recording ... any time, any place.
You're stuck in traffic or can't get away from a meeting...you won't make it home in time for your favorite programme. You're out with friends...and you suddenly realise your weekly drama is about to start. The Loewe Reference takes the stress out of situations such as these. Loewe Mobile recording allows you to easily record programmes on the integrated Loewe DR+ 1 TB hard disk, even if you don't happen to be at home. Leaving you free to enjoy your favorite programmes at a more convenient time! All you need is a smartphone and an Internet connection. Simply open the new free Loewe Smart Assist app, select the program from the programme guide and press 'record'... Your Loewe TV will then take care of the rest. When you get back home, you can even watch your recorded programmes on your patio, or tucked up in bed using a tablet computer.
