Oppo Uhd 4K Player

The lack of HDCD decoding takes away some of its credibility as an audiophile disc player. While the 203 misses out on this as well, I see it as primarily a UHD player.

Does anyone even use HDCD these days? I still play SACD's (bitstreamed from the BDP-83 over HDMI to my Denon 4311) but have never bothered with HDCD's myself.

It will be interesting to see what modifications , people the like of NuForce and Modwright Instruments do with the latest versions of the Oppo player, and more importantly at what cost.  Modwrightes offering of the 105D is something like 6k for the 105D, http://www.modwright.com/modifications/oppo-bdp83-and-bdp83se-mod.php   which while expensive is a comparable price to orther high end players. Earlier comments about Ayre [cough, cough] and Mac reflect this

Oh god, Valves on a BD player ... FFS! *facepalm*

the beta testers say it still works. but they are over in the US. can you believe we had ZERO beta testing of this player in australia ?

any wonder really ! a complete dis respect for our market and of their consumers I take that as. even interdyn it would seem only got a player or two literally a day or two before market release. seems a move not really designed to ensure sucess !

pretty poor considering the whole PAL, NTSC incompatibility issues

I've got quite a few audiophile discs mastered in HDCD.

I have at least a dozen.. but these days, I do most of my listening via streaming into my Marantz NA 11, so I don't think I will trade in my 203 for the 205. But I might get one to try anyhow and see how good it is then sell it...

sorry no, I wasnt game in case I was going to be returning the player ! and I might hold off on it still. while the oppo has had a stay of execution...I want to be convinced oppo australia are actually following up on these things and not seen any real outcomes evidence as of yet.

true we should be so grateful ! look am happy its here, but disappointing not more effort is made to get these things right. it didnt to know there was a problem. it didnt take me long to check these things and know there are issues. ultimately they cant check everything... but they can check the basics...do all form of disc types the player is supposed to play...actually plays just out of box :D after all it is a universal disc player !

Can't even get mine to play a DVD ??!

tell oppo... :D

no it wont play dvd not pal or ntsc... below what I advised oppo.... if you find the same let them know ... they might listen :D

ridiculous if you ask me ! an oppo that cant play a dvd ???? it is what people stated buying oppos to start with !

"I found a ntsc world zone DVD. With all settings on  auto I do not get picture to my jvc X7000 (black screen trying to synch). With Resolution set to Direct I do not get picture to JVC (blue screen and it says no signal. If I If I select Custom 1080p Auto it comes through as a 1080p 60 signal.

If I select the color space 4:2:0 I get a picture on Auto, Custom 1080p Auto, but a blue screen only on Direct.

This is exactly the same behaviour to what I see with a PAL DVD I have mentioned earlier.

I also then went back to try via my kuro and the PAL DVD plays with picture in with Color space in Auto and Resolution in Auto and also get picture if I select Direct or custom 1080p auto settings.

so this problem seems to be confined to playing DVDs through to my JVC x7000 projector."

Al ; before I ring my dealer tomorrow about the one they have ready for me could you please configure your 7000 to specifically Ycbcr 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 rather than auto to make the edid handshake easier for the oppo [ whatever colour space it says its using via its osd display button ]

I also wonder if it may like the edid b setting rather than a for sd resolutions ; gotta love hdmi

auto everything will not work ! cant even get the menu up for that !

am using 4:2:0

below is how oppo desribe the color space,

Quote

YCbCr 4:4:4 – The HDMI output uses YCbCr 4:4:4 color space.

YCbCr 4:2:2 – The HDMI output uses YCbCr 4:2:2 color space. Generally this is the color space that is close to the color space encoded on the discs. (All discs are encoded in YCbCr 4:2:0 color space, and the video decoder decodes it into YCbCr 4:2:2.)

YCbCr 4:2:0 – The HDMI output uses YCbCr 4:2:0 color space. (All Blu-ray discs are encoded in YCbCr 4:2:0 color space.)

and 4:2:0 being the encoded color space on blu-ray and uhd blu-ray does indeed work and seamless across this and DVD and the oppo menu.

thats all I found needed to change the color space from auto to 4:2:0. can leave everything else on the oppo to auto and it works.

I will try 4:2:2 when get a chance but will have to try right across the board and will take a bit of time not going to get a chance tonight.

Extra Details below and from the Loewe website: https://ww2.loewe.tv/au/bild/loewe-reference

Loewe is acknowledged as a specialist manufacturer and this is their top television model, the Reference, in a 55” size model. It is hand made in Germany with features that are not found on standard sets.

      Effortless Perfection.
The new Loewe Reference sets exceptionally high standards. An achievement made possible by a perfectly synchronised performance: A crystal-clear Ultra-HD picture combines with outstanding quality sound from Loewe's unique integrated soundbar. A timeless modernist design meets ultimate convenience, thanks to the integrated hard disk recorder and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Ultra High Definition ... for the best picture.
The UHD display is combined with Loewe's unique glass high contrast filter panel, delivering even richer colours and deeper blacks - for a truly special picture. For TV broadcast signals that do not yet meet the UHD standard Loewe's up-scaling algorithm converts from the currently available Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a seamless process ensuring visibly enhanced details and the clarity of Ultra HD 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.

Loewe 3D Active Shutter ... for even more depth.
From outer space to jungles or oceans … Sometimes, you want to truly immerse yourself in the action unfolding on your screen. Loewe's 3D Active Shutter technology brings images alive with vibrant detail - and not just for 3D content. Algorithms work invisibly behind the scenes - calculating which picture content should appear at the front and back - to transform even 2D content into an impressive three-dimensional home cinema experience.

High-resolution art ... with the LUMAS app.
The new LUMAS Gallery app takes art into the digital dimension - and opens up new horizons. It allows you to enjoy selected works of art by internationally renowned artists - such as the Cuba series by the Stuttgart-based photographer Werner Pawlok - in high-resolution Ultra HD quality on your television screen. The LUMAS TV app is available on the new Loewe Reference TV home screen, so you can start selecting pictures straight away - using the Loewe remote control. Browse photographs, graphics, illustrations, digital art or paintings. When you find a picture that appeals, you can display it as a fixed image (for a maximum of 24 hours) or enjoy as part of a slide show.

      Quality Sound
The Loewe Reference has a sound quality to rival even high-end hi-fi and home cinema systems: tangible bass, vivid middle, precise highs and an exceptionally wide dynamic range – the traditional hallmarks of Loewe Sound. The Loewe Reference sets particularly high standards. An integrated soundbar with eight speakers generates crystal-clear sound with a rich 120 watts of music output. In combination with the specially designed bass reflex box and integrated 5.1 audio decoder with Dolby Digital and DTS, the result is an impressive home cinema … and a perfect home concert hall. The Loewe Reference's cinema surround mode conveys amazingly authentic surround sound. At the touch of a button, it also allows you to switch between film and music mode. Special algorithms calculate the optimal overall sound setup for each situation: as powerful as possible while retaining sensitivity – ideal for cinema buffs and music fans.

Loewe Mobile Recording ... any time, any place.
You're stuck in traffic or can't get away from a meeting...you won't make it home in time for your favorite programme. You're out with friends...and you suddenly realise your weekly drama is about to start. The Loewe Reference takes the stress out of situations such as these. Loewe Mobile recording allows you to easily record programmes on the integrated Loewe DR+ 1 TB hard disk, even if you don't happen to be at home. Leaving you free to enjoy your favorite programmes at a more convenient time! All you need is a smartphone and an Internet connection. Simply open the new free Loewe Smart Assist app, select the program from the programme guide and press 'record'... Your Loewe TV will then take care of the rest. When you get back home, you can even watch your recorded programmes on your patio, or tucked up in bed using a tablet computer.
